kitchen cabinets
I'm torn between getting white or cherry. Which do you like better?

Cherry. Unless your kitchen is very dark.

Re: kitchen cabinets
white
I think the cherry, while popular now, is sort of a fad for now, and white is timeless.

Cherry. I think it's timeless and much richer and warmer.

Re: kitchen cabinets
Cherry. Considered "high end" & better for resale.

Re: kitchen cabinets
i was torn between the two as well... in the end i went with cherry because it was my very 1st gut choice. i plan to die in our house so resale wasn't a thought for me. when you 1st thought of doing your kitchen, before looking at pictures, showrooms etc, what did you picture - white cabinets or darker? i think that gut intuition is where you will find your choice.

Re: kitchen cabinets
it depends on what type of white cabinet. White is very VERY hard to maintain- especially if it is painted. It shows every splatter. If you are a big time cook or have chlldren I would advise against it.
Also, painted maple (not just white- any painted finish) can chip and show to the wood underneath.
Another option is to get a white thermafoil but that has a real "plastic" non wood look and doesn't work so well near heat sources (can discolor, melt, etc)
For these reasons, I would go with a medium color- not a red tone- but a brown ginger.
probably not the answer you would want.

Re: kitchen cabinets
I wrestled with the idea of sleek white cabinets but opted for cherry because I wanted ivory color countertops and floors...
Most people pick cabinet color/stain first then countertops but I want ivory/beige countertops and flooring and know white won't go with that.
Having a toddler also helped me make the decision to go with cherry. :)

Re: kitchen cabinets
I think it depends on what style you are going for.
To me, white is more country and cherry is more modern.

See I had white therm foil cabinets that were so modern they didn't go with my very traditional decor. I couldn't wait to get cherry so that it flowed with the rest of my house. I think bright white is modern, cream glazed can be traditional/country and cherry more on the traditional side although you can put it in a modern kitchen( all depends on the style door and knobs) When I think modern kitchen I think either bright white and espresso cabinets.

Re: kitchen cabinets
We put cherry is our last house (a natural/honey cherry, not dark). This time I think I'm going with white (maybe..., 1st kitchen contractor is coming today)
shooting for a modern kitchen - white cabinets with glass subway tiles and pops of color.

Re: kitchen cabinets
We were torn also.
We ended up with cherry wood, kafe stain (it's dark) and a recessed panel door with another groove. It is a nice simple door with some detail.
I love our kitchen and it is on the darker side but, transitional.
I wasn't looked at stark white but, white with a coffee glaze and you needed a door front that had some detail to pick up the highs and lows and that wasn't what we wanted.
When we moved in the kitchen was white and it was a pain to keep clean.
