Breast Pumps???

Hi ladies,

Which Medela breast pump do you feel is best?

I have to go back to work full time when the baby is 12 weeks, and want to make it as easy as possible.

I have the Pump in Style Advanced backpack and I love it. You will need breastshields, connectors, valves,membranes, tubes, and bottles to pump into. They sell accessory sets that should have everything you need. You may want to consider getting a car power adapter also if you will ever need to pump in the car. HTH!

I used the Pump in Style Advanced shoulder bag for 15 months with DS and loved it. The main accesories that you need come with the pump but I would suggest buying breast milk storage bags, extra bottles to pump into and an extra set of parts to use while at work to avoid having to wash them in between if you are pumping more than once at work like I did.

I just got the Medela Freestyle for this baby. My insurance convered it. I haven't used it yet because she hasn't been born yet but I have heard great things about this pump. I look forward to using it.

Thanks ladies!!! What kind of bottles work with pumping? Any? If I freeze the milk what do you do? Do I just defrost and pour into any bottle? Sorry dumb questions...

I see they have the storage bags/ containers. How many do you think would be enough?

As for how many bags, I bought them throughout the time I was pumping. It's really based on how many times per day you'll pump and for how many months (which you really can't determine until you start breastfeeding). I pumped every three hours at work (stayed in line with 's feeding schedule) and at home I b/f. When I travelled for work, which I did a lot, I breastfed around the clock and used a ton of bags. I think the freestyle is ultimately the best one.
I have the in style. and it is great... but a part of me wishes I got the freestyle. It was just too much $$$.

I was pumping for a while with the in style shoulder bag medela... and that is not a hands free one. I got sick of not being able to use my hands whole pumping to do other things (like eat, chat online, etc) that I ended up cutting holes in a sports bra... and that really helped me be able to pump for longer periods of time. It also made me happier to pump and not dread it as much. They do sell bra's that get the same job done.
Bottom line.. i DEF prefer a handsfree pump situation.

i wouldnt run out and buy all of this stuff for two reasons.

1. you dont know if you will end up using it. theres no way to know at the beginning if youll have a good supply or not. mine sucks. i can BF but i will never have a freezer stash. it would've been a waste for me to purchase these items.

2. BF moms LOVE giving their leftovers to other BF moms. i got SOOOO many boxes of freezer bags and stuff like that from friends that BF. i ended up passing them on since i never used them.

I absolutely LOVE the Freestyle, the pump is small and portable and is about the size of a grapefruit so it can fit into a diaper bag or purse, all i had to buy was the Freestyle spare parts kit (come with everything you need) and I got larger breastshield but I have bigger boobs. I love that I don't have to drag a bag around with me, I can just go into the otehr rom with me little pump and do my thing.

Does your OB BD to write a prescription or you just call edgepark?

When should you do this? Late in your pregnancy?

I have the instyle.. so I know more about that one. but yes... with the bra it's hands free.

I believe the freestyle is hands free already... no need for bra. i'm not 100% certain though.. like 98%.

I've never used or seen the freestyle... i just hear great things about it and i know it's the top of the line medela one. i have the instyle and it works great!! there's just more bells and whistles with the freestyle.

you can call or create an account. it looks like you are *purchasing* it... but you aren't buying anything at all yet. I'd call the number and speak to a rep. they also have breast pump supplies (breast pads, etc).

it wasn't covered for me either... but i have seen girls where the ins said it wasn't covered but edgepark checked and it actually was covered (sometimes full sometimes partial). good luck.
