Do I have a right to be mad at OB?

I had a 10:20 appt today. Leave work, run over in rain, check in, and a woman tells me she is the 8:20 appt and still hasn't been seen! That's right, 2 hours late!!!! So I asked at the front desk, and said I had to go back to work and couldn't be gone for 2+ hours. The receptionist rescheduled for Thurs, but acted kind of p!ssed, and said well, it's the first day after a long weekend. This was a regular appt, scheduled three weeks ago, so it's not like I was an emergency.

Thoughts? I can't be having all my appts run that late since I have to go to work.

2 hours is EXCESSIVE! That receptionist may have to be there all day, but you sure as hell don't! Yeah, I would be pis s e d!!!

In the future I would try to be the first appointment of the day or call before you leave and ask them how far back they are running. In my mind the OBGYN is the only doctor I was ok waiting for because I realized they really do have emergencies that make them have to go to the hospital to deliver other babies. That can throw their schedules off. It is the only doctor I really cut slack in that department, but then again my obgyn would call me to say they were running 45+ minutes late.

The day after a long weekend is not an excuse to run over 2hrs behind.
Emergency at the hospital is. However that doesn't seem to be the case.
I'd be pisssed.

I would be very mad. We all expect to wait a bit to see any doctor but 2 hrs+?? what's the point of making an appt at that point!

My OB is always running an hour and a half to 2 hours behind. I started making myself the first appt and getting there to be the first - first appt, getting there even before the receptionist gets there. Otherwise I could be there all day. My doc sees all his patients, is in a solo practice and delivers all his own babies. Plus he's awesome. I get why ppl go there and why the wait is what it is, but honestly, its not really an excuse. Which is why I do what I do now...

How is your OB normally?

My previous GYN was running REALLY late & she confided to me that she had terrible news to tell a previous patient. It took a long time to talk with that patient & set up further counseling.

My current one cancelled an appt on me once because of an emergency with a patient.

It stinks, but it does happen once in a while.

Thanks, all. I saw her for my first PG and never had that long a wait (longest was an hour, when I was squeezed in for an emergency). My practice has on-call drs. at hospital, so they shouldn't get called away unexpectedly.

This PG I only had one appt so far, with a nurse practicioner (who was great, but they want me to see a real MD now). I asked for 1st appt of the day and they said they booked up months in advance and offered me 4:45 or 7PM. I took 7, so we'll see how that goes.

That was normal with my old Dr and the very reason I switched Dr at 20 weeks. Best decision I ever made. My new Dr is amazing.

Thats crazy!!! I had the first appointment of the day at my one of my OB appointments. I got there early and they took me in at my scheduled time (10:00) The ob didnt even show up to my room until at least 10:30. There was nobody in before me to slow things up. She was just late. This is why there is always a wait at Dr.s offices. They cant even show up to work on time! After me, all of her appointments would have been waiting for the rest of the day. So dumb! Its your job! Get there on time!

ETA I started to now make appointments for their late night and I am the last appointment. Let me tell you, they couldnt wait for me to get there and get me out!!! I was a bit early and was out even before my appointment time. Lights were being shut off as I got into my car. If you can, maybe try a late appointment.

I make my appts late like 6:30-7 so I get taken in right away! Is there anyway you can go after work?

ugh so annoying. the only time i went to the Setauket location for an appt, it was 7pm and i didn't wait at all. After my initial appt @ setauket, i switched to the islip location and never waited more than 10 minutes.
