Feeling Overwhelmed After Doc Visit

I am only 8 weeks pregnant but I went to my OBGYN yesterday for my first appointment. I have had sono's before at my RE's office, but I am a little stressed out. I am overweight, but just as a precaution my OB wants me to go to quest and get a 2 hour glucose test to see if i have diabetes and see a cardiologist to check my heart. I never heard of doing the glucose so early on. I have never had issues with my sugars so I am little shocked by all of this. I guess I am just freaked out since I do have high blood pressure as well. My doc said not to worry this was just as a precaution to make sure all is well, but still scary. Just wanted to vent, thanks!

It's fine! Some Drs. take more precautions than others. I did a 1-hr glucose test at 12 weeks due to my age (over 40) and I passed. Unfortunately they had me do another at 28 weeks and I failed but I did pass the 3-hr.

Try to think of it as a good thing that your Dr. is thinking ahead. Chat Icon

Good luck with the tests. I'm sure your doctor is just being careful. You will probably feel relieved once the tests are over and they have checked everything out.

You're not alone. I'm oveweight and my doc made me do the 1-hour glucose test twice. Once early on and the second at the right time...with both pregnancies. I've never had sugar problems either. Thankfully i never developed GD with either pregnancy but it's good for them to err on the side of caution.

I had my glucose test done at 9 weeks. It was just a precaution because diabetes runs in my family (even though I don't have it). Everything ended up being fine. I wouldn't worry, they just want to be extra cautious. Chat Icon

Re: Feeling Overwhelmed After Doc Visit

I had a 1 hour glucose and a 24hr urine test done at 8 weeks - both as a precaution due to my weight, age, and HBP issues. As others have said, look at it as a good thing. Sounds like your doc is on the ball!

while not pregnant - i saw your post & wanted to comment.

I had my first glucose test at week somewhere around week 21...failed miserably. Diabetes is in almost every member of my family, so i kinda knew it was coming...didn't lessen the blow though...

it'll be okay!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Feeling Overwhelmed After Doc Visit

I felt the same way after leaving my first appointment.

Please remember your Dr is just being cautious. Do what you can to follow their 'orders' and ask questions when you do not understand.

I am also overweight and was told a few things I have to do in order to have a clearer picture of my pregnancy!

Best wishes!!

Try not to stress too much about it. Like many of the PP's mentioned it seems that your OB is doing this as a precautionary step. Good luck on the test and keep us posted on the results. Chat Icon

Thanks so much for your replies ladies, I feel a lot better! I guess I just immediately started thinking the worst. The good news is the baby is doing great, strong heartbeat, measuring well etc. Just have to take care of myself! Thanks again! :)
