Power outages and eating at restaurants

I see so many people eating out.

Now I know I am a bit paranoid, but I am hesitant to eat anywhere other than my home, since I don't know if that eatery had power out and for how long and if the food was properly refrigerated during the outage. Anyone else think of this?

I would think businesses like that would have generators. But I AM leery of going to places that were actually flooded.

I dont blame you. If I was pg, I would be super paranoid about this. Right now I am just cautious and going to avoid eating out for a good amt of time.

I don't go out to restaurants that lost powers, were flooded. Same for grocery stores.

I wait at least a full week prior to do so.

I called my local grocery store on Sunday. They were open and told us they never lost power. So we go there. Since I don't know about the others, I won't go.

Restaurants... I may wait 2 weeks.

I believe most reputable ones had or has generators to store food. My brother works at a restaurant and Sat night he was prepping the restaurant with boards and getting the generators running before they abandon ship so to speak.

I worked at friendly 's during hurricane bob. The lights went out for a few hours, but the industrial refrigerator/freezer was supposed to keep the temperature for 1-2 days

My friend owns a pizzeria/restaurant they had to throw away $1500 worth of food, I don't think a reputable place would risk it...

Re: Power outages and eating at restaurants

My two local grocery stores were out of power for at least 24 hours....now I was in one of them Saturday night, and they had paper / plastic over the refridgerated cases already, and the meat section was pretty much empty...

But at almost 8 months pregnant, like BearCat, I am not risking it...I'm headed about 15 minutes away to the store I know that IF they ever lost power, only lost it for a couple of hours.

Re: Power outages and eating at restaurants

We ate out but only ate at large chain restaurants. I am fairly confident these places have generators- no way they would risk all that food going bad.

My supermarket was powerless for days. I'm not shopping there for a few weeks.

I am the same way, and I really hesitate to buy perishable food for home either, though I did get eggs and milk tonight. I just don't trust grocery stores to toss all the spoiled food.
