How do I make an ice cream cake?

I want to make a school bus cake for DD's first day of school. I'd love to make it 3D, like this:


But my DD doesn't like "cake". So I thought I might be able to do it with ice cream. I have no idea how to begin. I'd like to use loaf pans in order to make the proper rectangular shape.

Personally, I would do a round ice cream cake with a toy bus on top of it. Decorating a bus like that might take a long time, and unless you're working in a freezer, you run the risk of it melting.

For the cake, just pack the ice cream into cake pans and then layer like you normally would.
