Bellissimo's in Amityville

I've passed this place literally thousands of times and always wanted to go. It's so gorgeous from the outside and I was intrigued. My mom, DS and I went today for lunch.

We walked in at about 1:15 and it was completely empty. Now we know why.

We both had individual pizzas with a variety of toppings and shared each other's.

In a word - UGH. Both were among the worst pizzas I have ever had in my life. The sauce had zero flavor. The cheese was watery, which made the whole pizza soggy. Even the toppings were terrible: the prosciutto was overly salty and the baby shrimp were rubbery and flavorless.

FTR, I'm not a food snob at all. I'm happy to eat out almost anywhere and find fault with little. Just wanted to share to save someone the trouble. I did a search and saw a few old posts about the place and someone mentioned a bad review in Newsday. I very rarely see a bad review in Newsday, so that says a lot.

This place is near my house. We've only been there one time and it was not for pizza.

We thought the regular dinner menu was good and excellent service.

There were only a few other couples the night we went as well.

I can't imagine they would stay in business if it was that horrible though. Especially a place that big on Merrick Rd.

Ive only had pizza form here a few times. It was good but nothing to really rave about.

The reason why I do not like the place now is because I had recently gone here and paid for 2 slices of pizza and a water and used my debit card. I checked my back acct later that night to find out that the guy had overcharged my card by a few dollars. It now cost me over $10 for 2 slices and a water !? I know it is only a few bucks but still, thats not right !! Chat Icon

My mom lives right down the block and I have never ever been and have no desire to go- I like Raimo's food so I usually go there- but I'm anxiously waiting for Fontana's to open in the old "mikes" space.

I think Bellisimo survives on parties

I will say the service from the waiter was good.

That doesn't make up for bad food, though.

I don't know, maybe their entrees are better.Chat Icon

Awww, makes sense. Actually my MIL wanted to have one of my showers there when DH's grandmother was alive, but did not because she said they could not accomodate anyone in a wheel chair easily..she said the bathrooms were located down a flight of stairs.

One of my showers was there, and it was actually a really great place for that. But, no pizza here either!
