update at bottom: awful awful spasms and cramping
So I have already talked to my doctor, been examined, had two sonos and been to the ER in the past three days.
I am having episodes of severe spasms/cramping in the pelvic area, right above my pubic bone, where I would picture my uterus to be or my bladder to be. The pain is so bad that I feel like I am going to vomit. It comes on maybe two times within 24 hrs. usually in the ate afternoon and then while I am sleeping at night. However, there is no blood, and I am still pregnant, so they cannot figure out what it is.
They ruled out ovarian cysts , also ruled out ectopic pregnancy, endometriosis and fibroids. They seem to think it is the normal cramping that some women get with pregnancy.
This is NOT normal. It is excruciating. It comes on slow, gets super intense for about 5 min, and then stops like a muscle releasing.
I am going to another doctor at the end of the month to see if they have any other ideas. I don't know what to do. I am living in fear of the pain.
Has anyone had anything like this early on in their pregnancy?
TIA!

Re: awful awful spasms and cramping
I know it sounds like a very simple solution but could it be your bowel? For me everything is so tightly packed inside now that when my bowel is moving I get a terrible cramp that nearly makes me pass out.

We thought it could be that or even really terrible gas pains but I just can't imagine that if it was it would be that frequent or in the middle of the night.. I don't know I guess anything is possible..

Re: awful awful spasms and cramping
I have had horrible cramping every night since I got my BFP. I keep mentioning it to my Dr. but he says everything is fine and it's just my uterus stretching. I kept saying it couldn't be normal either because I never heard anyone that went through this. I am now 12 wks and it has definitely gotten better this past week so I'm hoping it was just a first trimester thing. My Dr. also mentioned that being dehydrated can cause cramping so make sure you're drinking enough.

Re: awful awful spasms and cramping
I had some extremely painful cramping one night during my first trimester. It was so bad that I started to cry. It turned out to be really really bad gas For me, I had had 2 apples that day and a salad and it just proved to be too much. Drink as much water as you can to stay hydrated and if your bowels aren't moving, see if you can take something to get them to. It may help in relieving the pressure.
TMI but I find that my gas pains, etc are at their worst at the end of the day and during the night when I'm asleep, so it could be a combination of normal uterin cramping and gas. I hope you feel better soon!!!!

Re: awful awful spasms and cramping
I agree with the posts above...
I was awoken from the night a few times with excruciating pain, went to a GI and he told me to try milk of magnesia - sure enough, I was just very very constipated (like I have never felt before) and once I was "cleaned out" I haven't had the pain since.
I have had other horrid pains that i attribute to trapped gas. Pregnancy is such a lovely period!

Re: awful awful spasms and cramping
i had something similar, but i have a 7cm fibroid, and we assume it was giving me these pains. pains lasted for a week and then stopped.
have they tested you for kidney stones? appendix? UTI? the above are the most common causes. feel better!

Re: awful awful spasms and cramping
Thank you for all the responses...last night was the first night without pain. today was only slightly achy so I would say its looking good!
Have another sono scheduled for tomorrow to check the growth progress, so we shall see...can't wait to see if there are still two sacs!
Thanks again!

Im only 5 weeks..still very early, which is why I have been so paranoid about the pain.

Re: update at bottom: awful awful spasms and cramping
the first few weeks, i had excruciating pains that would wake me up at night and leave me in tears... turned out to be my bowel/constipation. i didn't even feel *that* constipated. i went to a GI who told me to try milk of magnesia. i took it for a few days and after it 'cleaned me out' i never had those pains again.
