Do we pump at all IN the hospital? If so, what pump do we use?
I have the Medela Freestyle pump ready to go, assuming the baby breastfeeds. But I don't want to open it until I know for sure that this is the route we're taking in case I need to bring it back!
While in the hospital, will we pump at all? Or just feed the baby? Does the hospital have a pump to use while we're there? I don't need to rent it for a month since I have one, but I was wondering if hospitals have pumps to use while there?
Thanks!

I attamepted to breastfeed DD and she wouldn't latch correctly so they gave me the Medela Symphony to use during my stay, it's a very expensive and very nice breast pump. When I got home I used my Pump In Style Advanced, I have the Freestyle this time because my PISA died.

The hospital will have a pump for you to use, but more than likely you will not need to use it, you will be feeing the baby directly.

Re: Do we pump at all IN the hospital? If so, what pump do we use?
I was given the Medela Symphony in the hospital with all new pieces. I was at Winthrop. I had to pump bc DS was in the NICU and I couldnt always get down there to feed him, so I pumped to try and get my milk to come in and build a supply.
I didnt open my pump at home and Im glad I didnt open it since I ended up not BF. I couldnt BF since I was put on meds for my high blood pressure after delivery and was on them until DS was like 6 weeks old. Thank GOD I didnt open it because I returned the pump no problem and got other essentials for DS.

I didn't pump in the hospital at all, I just fed directly. When I got home he was latching just fine but I was so sore because my nipples weren't used to all that action and they were so cracked that they started bleeding. It was so painful that my mom went out and got the Medela PISA the day after I got home. I ended up in the hospital a week later with double mastitis so I exclusively pumped for 2 months until my dad died. It was too stressful being hooked up to a pump 5 times a day for a half hour each time that I just tried nursing and it didn't hurt anymore. I haven't picked up the pump since. I regret that because I could have used a freezer stash but DS never had formula and he will be 12 months next week!
EBF was the HARDEST thing that I have ever done. I wanted to quit so many times. If it wasn't for DH helping (he would clean the pump parts, put the milk in bags, get me the boppy, keep me company, and just say kind words telling me how great I was doing) than I never would have been able to do this.

I had the same exact experience. I guess if DS hadn't been in the hospital, I would have just BF him but since he was in the NICU and I wasn't allowed to hold him the first 24 hours, I started pumping.
