JFK- Can you bring food?
Do they let you in with food? or do you have to buy everything at the airport?

Any airport I have been to has allowed me to bring in food. You can not bring in any drinks or gel like food (jelly, peanut butter, etc).

Yes I always bring my own food/snacks when I travel. I only buy my drinks after I get through security.

You can always bring an empty water bottle and fill it on the other side of security so you don't have to buy anything.

I ALWAYS fly with food! Ithink its paranoia mostly but one of my "go to" things for long flights is Cup-o-noodles. I ask the stewardess for hot water and Viola! Lunch! 
I also usually bring granola bars, but i agree with the PP, you shouldn't bring anything that contains liquids or jells.

Yep. No liquids or jells but I've brought pb&j and never had an issue.

We brought a container of PB and that was the issue. My DH had to throw it out. I think it all depends upon the TSA person you get.
