Video vs Audio monitor

Hey girls - So I am researching monitors before I add to my registry.

I would not mind registering for the audio. I read in Baby Bargains that the Phillips Avent is best for audio.

However, my laundry is in the basement and my office is on the thrid floor. Therefore, I feel like I will need the video monitor.

Would you go with the video if your house is situated like mine is?

I keep reading about the Summer Infant Best View Video monitor.

Re: Video vs Audio monitor

I went by the Baby Bargains book and only registered for the audio monitor. It worked great until DS learned how to pull himself up to a standing position. He'd stand up in his crib and get stuck because he didn't know how to sit back down. I didn't know if he was crying bc he was settling down to sleep or if he was stuck so I went out and got the Summer Infant Best View monitor. I absolutely LOVE it!!!

Crashing this board- just wanted to say that i feel the video monitor is soooo worth it!!! You can actually see whats going on instead of just the audio one where you will probably run into the babies room everytime you hear a noise. Just my opinion, but i wouldn't get the audio monitor Chat Icon

Re: Video vs Audio monitor

love my video monitor- i don't even really bother with the sound because i can hear my son in most places of the house. It was great to know when he was crying but working himself to sleep (which means i need to stay out) or something else is wrong because he is not settling down and i need to go in

it gave me so much peace of mind while i was sleep training - walking in to check interupts that all but it also allowed me to really analzye the differnt cries nad no which ones were not bad cries and which were the cries for help because he was hurting (ear infection/teethging)

with our twins on the way we just upgraded to the baby touch summer infant montiro and it is great - love that the sound button is on top, easy to move around the room, comes with good clips to attach the cord to the wall. THe pciture quality is pretty good and works nicely outside on our patio which is over the limit for the monitor's range

Re: Video vs Audio monitor

I have the worlds smallest house and for me a video monitor was a must.

Baby is going to sleep in the crib from day one and it will give me a little peace knowing I can see him from my room.

Re: Video vs Audio monitor

After being set on a video monitor and extensive research, we went with an audio monitor - Phillips AVENT DECT

I think if you have any concern at all get the video monitor. My master bedroom is far from the other bedrooms so I think I'm going to go with video for piece of mind.

We are THRILLED with our video monitor... My brother originally thought I was insane to register for a $279 monitor, but then "played" with it in the store and ended up buying it for us! He just thought it was the coolest thing!

We live in a Townhouse, but we have three livable floors. Baby's room is next to ours on the top floor... then living room/kitchen/dining room on the main floor and our basement is a movie room/workout area/playroom. DH is SO happy that we will be able to watch a movie or something in the basement while DS is sleeping and still be able to see him.

The Summer Infant Touch Monitor is the one we have. The video is pretty good (not HD, of course) and the sound is great, too. Love that we can control it, move, zoom, etc. from wherever we are. I highly recommend it!

Re: Video vs Audio monitor

We got a video monitor for DS b/c my friends with older kids STILL use it when they are playing in their rooms. I like being able to see him. Also, we had to let DS CIO at 6 months and it helped A LOT seeing what he was doing and that he wasn't hurt.

Crashing: GET the video monitor, it is the best thing EVER! You can see how the baby is doing and not go in and check and rish disturbing them.

I have the video monitor for DS. It is the BEST thing ever. I rarely run in......I love it. We are getting a 2nd camera for DC#2

If I had just audio I would run in on every noise....

Def. go for a video monitor. It will save you many unnecessary trips into the baby's room! Plus, you'll love rolling over and seeing that sweet face in the middle of the night. Chat Icon

ETA: I have the Summer Day/Night and I can turn off the video part and leave audio on and vice versa.
