Route question - driving to New England

I'm driving to Vermont via I 91 on Monday.

Unfortunately, it's unavoidable that I go during rush hour, although I hope to be out of NY before it gets bad.

Any thoughts on which of the two below routes would have less traffic? (I would think the former, but I wanted opinions.):

Throgs Neck to 95 to the Hutch to 684 to 84 to 91

OR

Throgs Neck to 95 all the way to 91, which starts in New Haven, CT

TIA!

95 in CT is just dreadful, I'd do Hutch to 684 to 84 to 91

At least the Hutch gives you a break from dealing with trucks on the road.

I would skip Throggs Neck & 95 & just do Whitestone, Hutch, 684, 84 91.

ETA: even with the construction on the Whitestone it's still leaps & bounds better than Throggs Neck & 95. I despise that route.

Where in VT are you heading?

Thanks for the responses.

I am headed to Killington, VT for a seminar.

FYI, I originally had this on FHF in case anyone took these roads for their daily commute.

You could possibly also take the NY State Thruway up to Albany and then cut across, that's usually what we do when we go skiing (although there's usually a decent amount of traffic on the Tappan Zee Bridge during rush hour).

I agree!

This is why I asked where in VT you were going. When we head up we take the Thruway also.

To avoid the Tappan Zee Bridge (hate it). We take Whitestone Bridge, Hutch, 684, 84 over the Newburgh Beacon bridge to 87 (NYS Thruway).

It's fast. It seems insane, but it's not.

I agree w/pp - avoid 95. I think you'll be fine whether you take the Throgs Neck or the Whitestone. I make a very similar drive frequently and the last few times I've done the Throgs and been fine.

Another option would be 684 to 84 to the Taconic and then to the Mass Tpke. You can pick up 91 from there.
