way early for me, but any1 thinking Christenings yet??

I'm stressing my BUTT off already about being able to afford a christening...

I know my Mom will tell me to just have it in my yard, but I'd want to do it around May/June latest, and I feel like the weather is too touchy and I don't have enough room in my house...besides, I really don't want to have to worry about anything...I can't imagine having to leave the church and get to my house before ppl, all dressed, and make sure food is cooking, and everything's set up, rushing around, etc, considering all my family that would help will be at the church kwim?

Can Anyone farther along that's seriously looking into christening's in Suffolk County recommend places?

I feel like we'd have 50 ppl definitely, and I'd really like to stay in the 30 - 40 pp price range, I'm not looking for open bar, maybe just beer and wine?

Re: way early for me, but any1 thinking Christenings yet??

I'm due in early November so I've just started thinking about the christening. We're planning on January or February, not exactly great months for entertaining because of the weather. Hopefully we won't have to contend with a blizzard!

I agree with having the party at a place as opposed to your home. I definitely find it a little more relaxing. I haven't started looking into places yet though. But you might want to check out Milk & Sugar in Bay Shore. My cousin just had her daughter's communion there and it was really lovely. They have a separate catering space called The Victorian Room. I believe it was about $35-$40 a head (before tax, tip, any extras).

Good luck!

Re: way early for me, but any1 thinking Christenings yet??

My gF keeps telling me to look into papa Johns, it's a restaurant on Commack Rd. Her stepfather had a party there and it was nice. We are using Smithtown Landing and the Christening has been planned since 2 months ago, I am due 11/6. I am a planner by nature. Never anything wrong with planning ahead.
Oh, and I have no idea how we are going to afford it, but I figure some will come from our tax return. Also, sometimes the earler in the year you do it, the better the rate will be. May/June is communion/wedding/graduation, price will be higher. And if you book within 3 months you can get a good rate too.

We are def. doing it at a hall or maybe a restaurant. Im due in November and we are thinking March/April because we don't want to deal with snow since we have family from all over. We have money set aside for this bc we also didnt want to deal with coming from the church and then setting up/getting food etc. and then having to clean up. Im no help with locations bc we are in Nassau.

I am due in November and I am a big planner so I have already starting thinking about this. We are probably planning on having it the end of Feb, beg. of March because I will still be home on maternity leave at that time and it will give us extra time to save up. We will definitely have it in a restaurant or something to avoid the confusion of having to come home and set everything up etc. That is my next plan, to try and figure out where to have itChat Icon

I was thinking about this a lot when I was pregnant, because I knew I would want it done before the fall hit.

We wound up going with Shandon Court in E. Islip for the party and we're very excited.

We also got a good price from Molly Malone's in Bay Shore, Papa Joe's in Commack, and J&R Steakhouse in Stonybrook.

My shower was there at Papa Joe's - and their prices are very reasonable IMO for what you get. All the packages include unlimited beer & wine!

I think she was quoted $35/pp for 3 choice dinner, salad, event cake, beer n wine. I "think"

that sounds really high to me for Papa Joe's!

I believe we paid $27.95 a person for 5 courses (appetizer, salad, pasta, entree, dessert) - and that included 4 dinner options (sirloin was one of the choices) and we brought in our own cake so they gave us fruit platters instead. Beer & wine was included.

We booked at the end of 2010, so I'm sure the prices went up by now, but it would be nuts for them to go up that much!

yeah my mom said that at our e-party (which was 2009 mind you) they paid about $26 a head i think?? im sure they did go up but i agree, i hope not that much...

although including beer and wine it's still better than alot of places! lots of places i've looked at are about $30-35 BEFORE the beer and wine!

Yup...it's all booked! I have news for you...when I called about my August baby's christening in June, the church told me they were already booking into January! I can't believe people are that organized! I was able to get a date in October though.

I priced out a bunch of places. I just decided I'm going to do it at home, even though I swore I would never have a house party like that again. BUT I really want to move and dropping $5K on a christening is not going to get me out of here any faster.

Yes we want to have it by Nov. Definitely at a hall it will be about 125/150 people. I'm starting to look now.

Same here. I am actually due this month, so we are planning a November Christening. But because of our large families and friends, weve decided to have just immediate family The babys Aunts/Uncles/Cousins/Grandparents and Great Grandparents and just that is 20 people!
