Help! New TTC!
Hello ladies!
While i have lurked on this board for a while now...(wishing all of you ladies lots of luck along the way) i am finally able to start my own TTC journey.
Not really sure where to start other than, I was supposed to start my new pack of BC yesterday and I didn't. I am going to assume that I will ovulate on the 14th day after my last period, so DH & I will be quite often in the next few weeks...
Anything I should know? Any suggestions or tips that could help out? I have PCOS, but hopefully this won't pose much of a problem.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

You dont ovulate 14 days from the last day... its CD14 so 14 days from the start of AF... but good luck either way... just every other day throughout!!!

yep... since youre coming off bcp you might not have a regular cycle... so just every other day so you dont miss it... because you may or may not O on CD14...
were you regular before going on BCP?

Yes, that is correct. welcome and lots of luck. Also, you should start prenatal vitamins if you havent already.

i don't remember, since it was so long ago, but i remember not being very regular...like maybe getting AF every 1½ or so.
So how do I know if I ovulate or not? and how do I keep track of my cycles after coming of the BCP? Just keep track when i next get AF and take it from there?

Re: Help! New TTC!
the problem with keeping track right after BCP is some people go right on track some dont... id suggest getting some OPK's from amazon.com... the clear blue digitals and going from there!

i was going to get some of these but i figured that i would check them out first at Duane Reed and it says they may not be accurate if you have PCOS - anyone else have any luck with these or is this warning true?

Re: Help! New TTC!
you could always buy the cheap non digital ones (wondofo) on amazon, and test on those, and save the more expensive digital ones when you get a positive on the cheap ones to retest and make sure. good luck!

Re: Help! New TTC!
good luck. honestly if you just came off BCP and have PCOS, don't assume you will ovulate on the 14th day of your cycle. coming off BCP in itself messes up cycles, it could take some time to regulate. further more PCOS tends to make us very irregular or anovulatory. its common to not ovulate, ovulate late, or ovulate some cycles and not others with PCOS. if your AFs were irregular before BCP they likely will be after. if they are normal then at least chances are better that you ovulate regularly.
for me I have PCOS and ovulation tests do not work at all for me. i get multiple positives when i did not ovulate. the only real way to track ovulation without a doctor is to temp for several cycles. you can use sites like fertility friend to read up on what that entails. the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility is very good also.
since you already know you have PCOS it may be beneficial for you to see a doctor and make sure you have no cysts. and if you go through more than 40-50 days with no AF, you can assume you aren't/haven't ovulated and you should see your dr. PCOS is different for everyone and can (but not always) make traditional TTC methods very unpredictable, hopefully for you it's not an issue.

i had my annual exam earlier this year and i have what are called transitional cysts which basically fluctuate back and forth between the left and right ovary. If its in one its not in the other and its only the one cyst. They go away naturally in the 6 months between my visits. My OBGYN said it shouldn't be a problem to get pregnant. He let me know that the best time to try for me, with PCOS would be coming right off the pill since i would still be working off the BCP and i would be most fertile and that it might become more difficult the further out i wait. lots of and to all of us TTC!!!!!!!

this wont work with PCOS because many PCOSers either never get +'s or get too many +'s that aren't followed by actual ovulation.

this!...if u r coming off the pill plus have PCOS u r cycles will prob we a little crazy..an opk can def give u a false with PCOS bc a positive shows that u should be surging in 12-36 hrs not that u will..i got positives many times but never actually ovulated
i would look into tempin
good luck!
