So frustrated!! Apartment vent
I'm starting to hate apartment searching.
People are CRAZY when it comes to what they are asking for rent not to mention the condition of the apartments is horrendous;
$1100 for a basement studio (15x18) plus utilities....seriously?!
$1350 for a basement 1 bedroom + utilities that has a hot plate, college sized fridge, and looks like someone was murdered in it?!?
$1800 for a basement 2 bedroom with only 2 basement sized windows, small kitchen and rooms you can barely turn around in?!
The list goes on and on....
I really don't think I'm expecting too much, but some of these people are insane for the rent they are asking.
I could find something cheaper in a complex then what people are asking for BASEMENT apartments that look like crap!
Please tell me that it gets better. I’ve gone to so many apartments and have had to walk out due to the condition, smell, size…etc. I’m sick of people falsely advertising crappy apartments.
Vent over…lol

Have you tried going through a real estate agent? I know when i was looking for my apt, I tried looking in the paper and such and there was such crap out there. then I went to an agent and she found me the perfect apt.
Good luck!

I found to get a decent apt you have to go through an agent. People with nicer places put their apts with agents cause the agent can do the credit check etc for them....Plus those apts will be legal ones and not basement apts. It stinks to have to pay the fee but I only saw bad apts when they were by owner.

How much are you looking to spend and where? I may know of someone looking to rent the first floor of their house (not owner occupied) and they would be excellent landlords and woudln't bother you about anything.

Re: So frustrated!! Apartment vent
I havent gone to an agent yet, I was trying to see what was out there since I'm looking for a September or October move-in.
I've checked everywhere and I'm not having much luck so I'm def. going to have to find an agent to help me when the time is right. I was just trying to save the broker fee since I'll really need it.

OMG I went thru the samething few yrs ago when I was looking for apt. ($800-1000) There were some homes that had Cujo's running outside, apt outdated with 1976 carpets that smelled like cat pee, bedrooms simalar to cheezy motels and kitchens that looked like petri dishes. Ater looking at like 15 apts I ended up renting one in a small complex. Privately owned and found it in my local news paper. It was more $ but WELL worth it ($1150 in 2005-6 +utilites)
Good Luck !!
gee a few yrs ago was 5 opps!!

Re: So frustrated!! Apartment vent
What area are you looking? I had pretty good luck with the apartment I'm renting and I found some others in the area that were in the running before I signed for the one I'm in now.

Re: So frustrated!! Apartment vent
It's rough.
I have to look for apartments for my clients as part of my job, and we have a cap on what they can have as their monthly rent.
Clients + their families get frustrated because it takes so long to find something and that is often when they ARE willing to put down a broker's fee.
I'd suggest trying out some of the apartment complexes but I know the rent is not much cheaper and often you have to deal with things like bed bugs or crazy neighbors in complexes.
My only other thought is that maybe someone on here knows someone who is renting.

Re: So frustrated!! Apartment vent
I found my on craigs list- it's a large 1 bedroom for $900 everything included
it's bright and fairly updated- the carpet isn't so great- but I have 2 cats so they would just wreck it more
I am a realtor- in my experince the apartments on MLS are more expensive
realtors are not suppose put illegal apartments on MLS

my max rent would be $1200 and I'm having no luck finding anything.
I think it's crazy that I'm having such trouble. The ore problem I'm running into is the fact that all the good ones are gone before you know it.
Hopefully I'll be able to find something!!

Re: So frustrated!! Apartment vent
MLSLI.com has a rental section, though I am sure most of them are through an agent. BTW those prices seem way high for what they are offering! GOod luck@

As a realtor, I can understand your frustration. MLSLI are agent listed properties but there are 9 in that area and price range currently listed. If you have no luck looking otherwise at least its an option for you. Good Luck!

Re: So frustrated!! Apartment vent
I am having the same problem. At least 1800 for a decent 2 bedroom in queens or Nassau. It is unbelievable! The realtors or so nice but the space is so small. 2 bedroom translates to 1 bedroom and a big closet. Not to mention the bait and switch on mlsli. If anyone knows of something for 2 people please fm me!

at that price I would rent in a complex.
Renting in a complex is looking like a better option for me at this point. I'm have a few place I'm going to check out but it's still frustrating!!
