Does The Hospital Have Pumps You Can Use?

Hi! I am due in a few days and getting really excited and nervous!

My insurance company wont let me order the pump before I give birth. I am afraid I will need it in the hospital if the baby wont latch.

Do you know if the hospital has pumps that you can use? Or can you rent one for the time you are there?

Thanks!!!!!

Yes, hospitals usually have one you can use. But don't go there just yet! With some work I am sure DC will latch on fine. If you need help, don't be afraid to ask for it from the nurses and lactation consultant- that's what they are there for! Good luck! Chat Icon

I have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. Yes, a lot of insurance companies covering it depending on your plan. I had no idea either until I saw it on LIF! I am able to get the Medela Freestyle which is $$. From what I have seen on here most girls whose insurance companies cover it are able to get the expensive pumps which is great! I am lucky and mine is 100% covered but some insurance covers 80 or 90% which is really good too!

Hospitals do have pumps for you to use. But, if you really want to BF successfully I would avoid pumping for the first couple of weeks if you can, especially the first few days. It is important to get the baby on the boob directly every 2-3 hours those first few days and take advantage of the lactation consultants and BF knowledgeable nurses while you're there, let them help you if you're latching issues. And you probably won't have any, cross that bridge when/if you come to it. Try and save the pumping for after you get home and your milk comes in. Good luck!
