iui to ivf ..few questions..
so we have done 6 iui with no luck..16 months total in trying..
with our ins we have to do 12 iui before they will pay for a ivf..a few girls had mentioned to me on here that maybe Dr.B can talk to the ins and get me approved for ivf now rather than have to go for 6 more iui
my dh wants to finish the 6 other before moving on..i want to move on..i know its more cause i am at my limit,i am sad and frustrated beyond belief,he thinks we just need more time(he is a happy go lucky kind of guy which normally i love but with this it drives me nuts )
so here my questions..does the success rate for iui go up as you go along..do people get lucky on number 8 or 9?..i just feel like they r not working..or would you just go to ivf..i guess i should say what issues i have if that makes a diff..i have PCOS, a few clotting issues, hoshimoto's and i am a diabetic
i guess what i mean is what is the reasons one goes from iui to ivf..
sorry so long, hope i made sense
thanks girls

Re: iui to ivf ..few questions..
I'm in a similar boat, but 4 iui in 7 months (1 mo off and 2 mo natural). Dr b said that after a few failed "perfect" cycles they look into tubal issues like the tubes might not bs propelling the egg down. In this case Ivf is needed. I guess this is when he can call the ins co.? I don't have any Ivf coverage at all but its really dumb that ins won't cover at least 1 or let you move on when it's apparent that you wont get pregnant without it.
Since I don't have coverage I'm trying a few more. (also waiting for the 3 month wIt for DH new coverage to see if there is Ivf) if I had coverage or the possibility of going for Ivf now, I would. I always hear of the 7th working so I'm ok waiting it out (for now).It doesn't hurt to have dr b ask them.
Good luck! Many people get pregnant at their last ditch effort before Ivf so hopefully that happens for you too!

the chances of IUI working actually go down if you haven't gotten preg after 3 PERFECT cycles. perfect meaning several eggs, good lining, good sperm count..etc. but as many here can attest, % and odds mean nothing, what matters is your own journey. good luck!!

Re: iui to ivf ..few questions..
i asked dr b about this the other day b/c we are going on IUI#3. he's prob told you this too but he said that 80% of people conceive within 3 perfect IUI cycles. of the 20% remaining, 20% of them will conceive within a year so it seems to me that after 3 perfect cycles the chances of getting pregnant go down significantly. that said, i've read SO MANY stories of women that get pregnant beyond IUI#3 so it definitely could still happen! everybody's body and story is different! good luck!!

This is what I've heard also.
What's your diagnosis? I think that makes a difference too.

Re: iui to ivf ..few questions..
I did 5 IUI's before moving on to IVF. I can't imagine doing 12 IUI cycles. That sounds crazy to me. My RE suggested 3 tries with any protocol before moving on to something else. There is no question that your chances improve dramatically with IVF. My is the result of IVF (first try!) Best of luck!

Re: iui to ivf ..few questions..
Well I think you know my story in a nutshell but my first pregnancy was after the 3rd IUI .. then after the loss we did 3 more IUIs and had a chemical on the 3rd. For all of those IUIs I had 4-6 great size follies... pretty good lining ..... my DH had no issues... We did IVF partially to move on with our lives thinking I'd just get pregnant faster that way, and partially for diagnostic purposes. I also have decent IVF coverage. I'm definitely glad we moved on when we did.
I think if you do want to move on, there are ways to fight the insurance. That's what we did and our case got approved.
