hardwood floor gaps
Do hardwood floors expand and contract due to weather conditions?
We were told the floors were original to the house and that they were just refinished before we bought the house. So they looked perfect when we moved in. It's been 7 months now and we're starting to notice some gaps in between the boards that were definitely not there before. So I'm wondering if that's normal or if the floors weren't sealed properly somehow.
Any thoughts?

Re: hardwood floor gaps
they do, but generally they expand in the summer (from the heat & humidity) and contract in the winter. I only see gaps in the winter.

Re: hardwood floor gaps
If you have the AC running all the time, that will cool things down and decrease the humidity, but if they were done 7 months ago, it would have been around January.

Re: hardwood floor gaps
I'm noticing some gaps now also. Our floors are original to the house (1939) and we had them redone before we moved in in 2009. Back then I didn't see any gaps bc it was HOT (crazy hot), we bought in the summer. I started to notice the gaps in the winter (when wood contracts) and they are still there I guess bc we have CAC and it's never hot in here.
