how often do you water your lawn?

I am noticing brown patches, shamrocks and patches of odd, thick grass in our front and back lawn. Any idea what can be causing this?

We have a landscaper come and mow the lawn once a week and we have the sprinklers go off at 5am - not sure of how many days a week.

Sorry for all the questions lately - but I really appreciate the feedback!

2x/day - 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. We just seeded 4-5 wks ago and that's what the landscaper told us to do.

We have automatic sprinklers that go off at 4am everday, unless it rains we hav a wireless rain sensor that shuts it off.

You're describing clover and crabgrass. They're weeds. You can treat them chemically (or your landscaper can, for a price), treat one or both of them organically, or let them be since they're green anyway and not really noticeable unless you're up close.

As for watering - we water at 3:30 AM every day for half an hour in the front and back, and 15 minutes on the sides (where no one really hangs out). I water an additional 15 minutes in the evenings in the back, where we have new seed. The lawn is... okay. Mostly green. A little brown. But water in our town is EXPENSIVE - last summer our water bill was over $200 for 2 months - so I'll just live with a little brown.

We water the front lawn for about 45 minutes every night.

Right now we're watering every other day, 15 minutes on each zone.

every day, some zones 20 min and others in need for about 40 min, and our grass is still dying in some spots !! argh.

In the summer, every other day as per town regulations. If it rains on my day to water then I just skip that day.
