clogged shower

due to my long hair, my shower gets clogged. ill use draino or similar and it will work for 2 weeks then the clog comes back.

i clean the drain after each shower but it doesnt seem to be enough

how do you keep your draing clog free?

how do you unclog a drian?

its not horrible, but when i get out of a shower, the tub still has water in it (where the water should be drained instantly)

Re: clogged shower

Our drain has this special cap on it so no hair gets down...both DH & I lose a LOTChat Icon

I know in the other apt we had this problem and the landlord had to call in an inexpensive plumber to snake it...draino just didn't work anymore.

Re: clogged shower

our shower clogs up alot also and I use the Professional type Liquid Plumber. Seems to work great.

You might want to get a screen to put over your drain cap so taht after you take a bath or shower, you can clean it out right away and the hair isnt going down the drain.

We had this problem twice. we had someone come and use something called "a snake" it basically can pull out all the hairs from the pipe. They say its not good for your pipes though to do it often. We tried other methods, but the snake was the only one that got the water going down well again.

I bought one of those hair stopper things from BB&B and it helps catch the hair from going down the drain.

the crystal drano works very well on this - however my FFIL just used an electric snake (?) on our shower and it worked wonders. It might be worth investing in one! I have no idea how expensive they are though.

Re: clogged shower

Try boiling a large pot of water and baking soda. Then pour it down the drain.

if your like me, you have long hair (past shoulders, middle of back) and very strong hair, then there is nothing you can do to avoid clogs. I use drain cleaner weekly when I thoroughly clean the bathrooms. I've used the "caps" and strainers they have for the drain but after I am in the shower for 2 minutes, there will be standing water b/c my hair is now covering the entire strainer and very little water can get through. So, to avoid that everytime I shower, I just let my hair drain down the pipe and clean it weekly with drain cleaner.

Re: clogged shower

i use an industrial strength drain cleaner. When I get home tonight I will tell you what the name is.

My brother gave it to me. He works in maintenance. This stuf is powerful! I use it about once every two months.

Re: clogged shower

I had the same problem!

You need to install a different shower drain, the kind that facing out, not in. In other words, the dip that usually goes into the drain needs to be sticking out. That way all the hair sits on top of the drain and doesn't go inside only to get stuck inside the pipe! You can just pick it up and toss it after the shower!

Re: clogged shower

I have a plastic drain cover that I use when I shower to prevent clogs. I am amazed at how much hair that thing catches!
