Going to an RE, what to expect?
Hi all,
I have decided to contact an RE because my doctor's office has not been very helpful in explaining to me the possibilities of why I am not O or getting AF, their solution is just to take Provera every month to bring on AF.. so that being said I made an appt with an RE (RS of NY, Dr. Trivax, anyone have an experience w/ this doctor?) and just wanted to know what I should expect at the consultation? TIA!

Try over on infertility board. I know a few girls go to RS of NY.

I'd love to hear this info as well. I'm trying to work up the nerve to make an appointment with their office today.

The RE will go over your and DH medical history, have DH go for a semen analysis, blood work on both of you, a sono and a test to check to be sure your tubes are open and not blocked. Based upon all that information, the RE will determine what is going on (unexplained, PCOS...) and come up with the best plan for you to achieve pregnancy.

Ok I finally called and made the appointment! I'm seeing Dr. Cain on Thursday. Don't know when you're going but if it's after that I'll be sure to let you know how it goes!

This pretty much sums it all up. Many people leave their first RE appointment with a sense of relief because there's a new plan, and an expert to help.
I went to a different RE, but this is what I remember from my appt:
I was able to fill out most of the medical history paperwork ahead of time and bring it with me. It gets kind of in depth, so it was nice to have the opportunity to fill it out privately.
They did an internal sono in the office to check for cysts, lining, etc.
While doing the sono, they did DH's bloodwork.
We were given prescriptions for: * SA for DH * HSG for me - a test where they use a special dye to check your tubes - this was done at the hospital radiology dept. * Bloodwork for me because my appointment was mid-cycle instead of between CD 2 - CD 5.
If you have any questions, I'm happy to answer them!

I go to RS of NY and they're wonderful. I see Dr. Stelling. It was such a relief to start going there bc they do all the planning work for you- it takes a load off of your mind. It's def a step in the right direction. Good luck!
