Re: I quit life!

Oh God Maris-it happens to everyone-so she's saying that your DH NEVER fell or got a bump or bruise as a infant/toddler-jeez she must be superwoman.
Jenna has fallen off a couch, out of her swing, ate a ponytail holder, etc...NOthing we could do to prevent mistakes-we are human and our children will survive minor cuts and scrapes.

Jeez-my BIL's son stuck a marble up his nose and it got stuck and his parents are doctors!

Re: I quit life!

I'm not even a mom yet, but I've had a similar experience while babysitting my niece. I took her to the park and she tripped over her own two feet. She went down and smacked her head on the jungle gym. She started screaming and wound up with a huge bump on her forehead, but she was fine a couple of minutes later. I felt so guilty, especially because it wasn't even my kid. But I knew that the same thing could have happened no matter who was watching her and it wasn't my fault, even though I felt pretty crappy about it.

Re: I quit life!

These unfortunate things happen to all of us.
I like to think of myself as a mom that's on top of things, however 2 horrible incidents occurred that I still beat myself up about to this day.

One thing was I had a car that automatically locked the doors when the driver got out. In my driveway, half thinking, I got out of my car, left the keys in the ignition along with my bag...and my 1 1/2 year old son in his car seat. I closed the door and he was locked inside. It was a hot day and the windows were closed. I ran to a neighbor who knew the mechanic's # on the corner. He came and jimmied the door open. It took a long time (maybe 15 minutes in total). Thank God my son was OK...but I was a mess and felt like a failure.

Another time my same son was in his room playing while I was cooking. I heard a loud bang and looked down the hall to his room where it had become pitch dark and there was no sound. I ran down the hall, stumbled in the dark (I was 6 months pregnant at the time), and found that my son's HUGE 9 drawer solid wood dresser had fallen on top of him. He had been climbing up the opened drawers like stairs, unbeknownst to me. By the grace of God and 2 Guardian angels that my children have (my grandpa and MIL), he came out without a scratch. (His bed had broken the fall). I on the other hand had ripped my legs apart trying to get to him and I cried for 2 days.

Things happen. Unfortunately, they will continue to happen. We do our best as moms to protect them. That's all we can do!
Many Chat Icon s to you!!!

Bottom line - he'll learn from his mistakes. This is how he learns to be careful near the edge of the bed. Both my kids have fallen off of some appartus. It was worth the bruises. They're not seriously injured & they learn to be more careful.

Joseph burned himself by touching a hot pot one day (he was about 13 months old). We said "Hot! Don't touch" for the next few years. He still says "Don't touch that - remember when I got burned" (not a chance he remembers).

Oh & your MIL is still a b!tch. Chat Icon

This is what DH tells me whenever something like this happens and I feel horrible!!!

But like all the ladies said this has nothing to do with the fact that you are a very good mother and all Ryan is going to remember is the love and adoration you have given him!
