Talk to me about overstimulating, UPDATED
This is my 1st cycle of injectables (Gonal) days 3-5 150iu, CD6 75iu & CD7 37.5iu and I went for my u/s this morning and I am chock full of follies on both sides. So here I am at CD8 and none of them are large enough to be mature yet but I'm afraid I will be cancelled.
My Q is; did anyone "coast" and was still ok for an IUI?
THANKS!
UPDATE
Stopped Gonal last night and went for BW and US this morning. I have 2 or 3 dominant follicles now (vs the 15 or so follies yesterday). Waiting on a phone call for my estrogen level to see if I will even stim anymore. Thanks!

Re: Talk to me about overstimulating
i was really scared of overstimulating last cycle and it ended up being just fine....i did 5 nights of 150iu and then my follicles were mature so i would say you still have some time for them to grow. my follicles all grew to about 22mm and my stomach felt like i had grapefruits in it and still the doctor did the cycle. the heaviness in my tummy lasted about 3 days and then went away and he said that's totally normal.

At CD9 I have a lot, I'm waiting on a call from the DR to see if I will stop stimming and just coast. How many did you have? Thanks

i had 3 follicles on each side (but my right side is useless since i dont' have a tube there). when i went in on cd12, they were still slightly small so i did another night of stims. this is all relatively new to me. if you "coast" will the follicles grow on their own? i always thought you stim until they are mature?

They will grow on their own but hoping that not all of them will become mature. I really do not want to cancel this cycle.

Sorry to kinda crash, but if you do overstimiuate can they retrieve those eggs and preserve/freeze them for an IVF cycle?? Just curious

That's a good question. Not really sure, I'm assuming you could. Always something to look into...I'll ask the Dr,

I would think so too. So that might be an option for you if this does happen. Let's hope you won't even have to go down that route. How are the injections going? I'm going to the doc tonight to discuss injections.

i would think that in order to do an egg retrieval you'd have to switch to an IVF cycle and do that instead of the IUI, but then again, i really have no idea
ETA: i just started injectables last cycle and they are really not that bad. the anxiety i had about it was WAY worse than how it actually is. after the first few times, you really get used to the needles

Re: Talk to me about overstimulating
what size are your largest and smallest follies? i had my first injectable cycle cancelled due to hyperstimming. i had 10+ mature follies at the time. they could switch you to IVF if it warranted it. i didnt do it during my cycle cause i had no IVF coverage and it was my first injectable cycle and i wasn't ready. but it def is possible under the right circumstances.

A lot of 10,11,12's on both sides and 2 sie 14's. you had 10+ MATURE follicles! Holy cow! I'm really not ready for IVF right now, I'm just hoping I can coast and only a couple of follies mature.

Re: Talk to me about overstimulating
As someone who hyperstimulated twice during IVF cycles I know how frustrating it can be! Prior to IVF I did 2 injectible cycle in which the doctor literally tweaked my follistim every night in order to prevent hyperstimming. I did not have to cancel either of my IUI's but we quickly learned that I am the kind of person who will either make 10 plus follicles or 1 or 2. It was very hard to control - however, each cycle I felt that my doctor learned more about my body. As for IVF, my first cycle I hyperstimmed and there was just no stopping it. My 2nd fresh cycle I literally lived in the doctors office and was on the most minimal amount of meds. I coasted on the last night which allowed my follicles to continue growing because they are pretty much fed by your rising estrogen level. Also, not all follicles grow or continue to grow to the size in which they can be released by the trigger.
Wishing you lots of luck on this cycle!!!
