Necessary?

Well I had my IUI this week and am supposed to be starting Crinone this week (prog. suppository)
Well...as I am getting ready to do it, I am just so sick of all the meds. I have ZERO prog. issues and he only gave this to me b/c "it cant hurt"
I just really dont want to do this for the next 2 weeks....do you guys think its really necessary? I feel like emailing him and telling him I am not doing it

Background-we have unexplained infertility. I have never conceived

Re: Necessary?

personally, i think it's worth doing. it's better to be on it in case you conceive than get preggo and then realize your progesterone is low (which puts the baby at risk). i just did IUI and used crinone and it's not that bad. i know all the meds get sooooo tiring but it WILL be worth it in the end if you get pregnant Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Necessary?

I totaly understaand not wanting to take meds that arent necessary. I have such a hard time with side effects from everything. Honestly, I would discuss your concerns with the doctor. Sometimes they say the side effects are not as bad compared to the benefits you might get from it. Maybe he should do a progesterone test to see if you really need the meds?

I really disagree with doctors when they prescribe meds just for the sake of prescribing something. Chat Icon

Good luck!

Re: Necessary?

If this cycle is not successful, will you regret not doing it?

Re: Necessary?

I don't think using progesterone is bad at all. Actually the worst drug for me in this whole process is the birth control pill which I'm currently on!!

Personally I would just use it, it's not a big deal at all!!!

I would use it and this is why.

I lost my first pregnancy to low progesterone in my sixth week. I truly believe if I had been on it, I might not have lost my first pregnancy.

A lot of Dr. feel different about the use of prog supps but If he recommended it I would stick with the protocol. Do it at night if you want, I do it and have barely any side effects and little discharge. I have been on it for almost 7 weeks.

I had the same exact convo with the doctor because i, too , am sick of the meds and their crazy effects. it came down to, if i got pregnant and something happened, i would regret not doing it. so, i did it for the first time last night and it wasnt so badChat Icon

Re: Necessary?

I didn't ready anyone's replies, but my mentality when it comes to doing anything while TTC, especially w/ IF(extra meds, cutting out caffiene, etc...) Is that at the end of the day I have to know in my heart that I've done everything I could've, regardless of the outcome. The dr. wouldn't prescribe it if he didn't think there was a benefit to it... Even if its just "covering bases" so to speak. I hope that helps. Best of luck to you!

This is how I feel. I often during a cycle I'll ask Dr.B if we're doing everything we can!!
