Shopping for house with a toddler
How does anyone do this? My husband sleeps during the day and works at night so he cannot help. I don't want to hire a babysitter since he is in daycare all week. I have a little over two months to find all my kitchen products and feel like I am not going to get this done.
TIA

Re: Shopping for house with a toddler
I hear you. It's so hard. I took my DD with me to a lighting store recently, b/c some workers broke our outside light. Well DD (who was standing right next to me) lifted her hand and got burned on a light fixture, while in the store. Had to make a few drs visits since then, she is ok, and it wasn't too bad. She was right to me, and she was behaving but her height was right at the fixture's height and it happened so quickly I could not stop it. Some of our jobs we have had done even suffer a bit b/c if I am alone with DD< I can't keep checking on workers and leave DD alone so much....so things don't always go according to plan.
DD will be starting Nursery school in the fall and I look forward to those few hrs each day (3 days) to get some things done alone. .
Forget about me getting to the dr. I took my DD recently with me to get an echo and my heart rate was so fast....why? B/c she was whining in the room b/c she was trapped in her stroller. Nice. So I put alot off and my health suffers to some extent b/c I put all on the back burner.

Re: Shopping for house with a toddler
I had to do this when I was re-modeling our bathrooms, shopping for tile, light fixtures, vanities, the whole nine...however he's pretty good in the stroller, I'd bring snacks always, and toys ect. If the salesperson was busy I'd call and make sure I'd get an appt beforehand so they can meet me asap to save time waiting around. It's doable, while if your DC hates the stroller, I'd probably try and get the babysitter, it will be a lot more time - effective.

Re: Shopping for house with a toddler
We recently bought and my 3 y/o came with us to all of the houses. I always bought along her bucket of little people and she sat in the middle of the livingroom on the floor playing as each of looked around. It didnt seem to bother the real estate agents.

My son was a nightmare at Consumers on Sat, he needed a nap.
What did we do before the internet? This is where I get my shopping done.

She came with us. It was actually harder because I was pregnant. Abby was very good and to be honest, people wanted to sell to a nice young family with kids.

She means shopping for your new home's accessories and details, not for the house itself. For ex, picking out new kitchen cabinets, appliances, etc, etc.

It was rough. Chels does not sit still for a second so after a few nightmarish outings we got the grandparents to watch her while we went to pick stuff up...

Re: Shopping for house with a toddler
Can you leave work early a couple of days to look without DS while he's in daycare still?
Or can you bring someone with you to the store to watch DS while you look (a family member?)
We just remodeled our house and only took DS to pick out our toilets and such. It was so much work having him there and it was tough to concentrate, we had him stay with his grandparents or did things while he was in daycare for the remainder.

Re: Shopping for house with a toddler
We took DS with us to do everything; applicances, cabinets, tiles. He was around 18 months at the time. Mostly I just strapped him into his stroller. At the cabinet place we let him run around a little bit. I had DH with me but I don't think that really helped because we just fought with each other about him. LOL I would just strap your LO in and try to include them in what you're doing, or occupy them with other things like books or toys. Bribery works too!
