How to keep neighbor's dog away from our flowers?!?!
So my parents' neighbors have a dog (puppy). A pitbull no less.
Anyway, the neighbors kids (older teens) do a horrible job of keeping the dog leashed and he often comes on to my parents property (front yard). Sometimes he crawls under the side bushes too. He has destroyed 1/2 of my parents flowers in the flower bed on the side that the 2 houses share.
Any suggestions on how to possibly keep the dog from destroying the flowers/coming over? Any scents that will keep him away?Anything?
TIA!

Talk to the owners of the dog. Do they know what is going on? If they do and have not done anything, I would say if you/your kids cannot keep the dog leashed you are going to bill them for the new flower beds/bushes that their dog destroyed. If not, I would give them the benefit of the doubt and show them what their dog has done. Explain that it upsets you and ask them how they would feel if they were you. What would they want done. I might even try that option even if they do know what the dog did.

Re: How to keep neighbor's dog away from our flowers?!?!
Our dog was an escape artist too- she's a pit as well. Well one time she got out (this was when DH was living with his father) and the neighbor was fed up and instead of calling my DH's house, he called animal control. Animal control was on the other side of town so they called the local precinct to wrangle the dog. When they got wind that it was a pitbull there was mass panic and 7 cop cars showed up and shot her and his brother's dog. Mind you this was in the middle of a Massapequa Park at 3pm as school was letting out.
It cost us over $10k in surgeries for her and she almost died several times. They shot her in the chest and she had bullet wounds in her stomach from it ricocheting off the ground. Then we had to go to court to plead for her life because since the cops discharged their firearms they covered their a$$es and said the dog charged them (eyewitnesses from the area confirmed that wasn't true at all, they were just running around being dogs until the cops started shooting).
To make a long story short (too late ) they declared her to be a "dangerous dog" and she was banned from ever leaving the house again and my FIL had to get a new PVC fence to replace the chain link to make sure they would never be able to get out again.
Tell your neighbors that story and they may feel differently about letting their dog wander out of the yard. Granted my DH should have been watching her but obviously we could have never expected the events to unfold as they did. Lesson learned.
And FTR- she is a wonderful dog and an absolute sweetheart. She was only 2 at the time this happened (it was 8 years ago).

I would just go talk to the neighrbor and ask them to keep it on a leash since it is the law and to please not allow the dog onto the lawn.
Not sure why you felt the need to say it was a pit bull....does it really make a difference. Ok that was my for the week!

i would also contact the town about an unleashed dog. they will send a letter first telling them to leash and than a fine if it continues. regardless of the type of dog-dogs need to be leashed.

what about fox urine? i put it around my vegetable garden to keep rabbits out. My container says for small critters, but I wonder if there is one for dogs?
