AFP test
I am going to the doc this afternoon for the AFP test. I don't recall having this with my last pregnancy, so I was just wondering what it involves? Is it just bloodwork? TIA!

I had this with my last pregnancy-- it's just blood. And it's a screening, like a nucal-- so numbers are always weird. They use the results from both tests to assess your risks.

If it's just the AFP then it's only bloodwork. If it's the 16/17 week sequential then it involves a sono too.

if you did the nuchal, then they use the AFP to check for spinda bifida.. one vial of blood and they'll send the resutls to your doc.. if you didn't then i think they test for the trisomy 18, 21 and spina bifida..
