Three quarter glass door or oval door

I am doing the whole outside of the front of my house. We had the door place come and they recommended the three quarter glass door. We will have two sidelights next to it. They said the oval doors were the rage and now people are buying the three quarter glass. I can't decide. Does anyone have either? I am comcerned the three quarter glass will be too much for me at night.

3 quarter glass looks beautiful....my favorite (and trust me i have stared at ALOT of doors and styles) is full length sidelites and a small oval insert in the door....

look at pictures and drive around to see what you prefer! both are nice options...the more glass the more $$$

Re: Three quarter glass door or oval door

DH and I just got a full glass oval door (we don't have room for sidelights). I was concerned about it being too see-thru at night.

We don't have that problem at all! We got glass that has an "8" privacy rating - out of 10. You can see shadows but can't see shapes.

Love it.

The prices run about the same for where we are going. Just can't decide between the two...

that is good!
my vote would be a small oval in the door and full length sidelites...amazing look. (not a large oval they are more dated)
if you like the amount of glass in the 3/4 length insert in the door just make sure you get the 3/4 length sidelite glass or it looks goofy.

Re: Three quarter glass door or oval door

I have 3/4 glass double doors and love it! It leaves very little privacy though, so I would be cautious depending upon what you can see from your front door. We have a breezeway entryway so at night the most anyone can see is a few plants and the back doors lol otherwise I probably would have opted for something different if it led into the kitchen, LR, DR, etc!

ETA: Please excuse the terrible (and lack of) landscaping, this was taken right after we finished construction on our home.

Re: Three quarter glass door or oval door

For about 10$, you can get a frosted film from HD that completely eliminates the privacy issue of having so much glass. Still lets most of the light through, but you can't see anything inside unless it's touching the glass itself.

Thanks for the input. Trying so hard to decide. We are getting the three quarter sidelights regardless of which we go with. The bottom of the oval is the same length. We have had full sidelights for years and need a change. Just trying to decide on the door now...

We have had full sidelights for years and need a change. Just trying to decide on the door now. The door goes in a little hallway and then behind it is the den where there is a small view of a couch. That is the part that is bothering me.

Re: Three quarter glass door or oval door

We have the 3/4 glass door and I love it...I would have preferred a more Craftsman look (without the textured glass) but compromised with DH who wanted more privacy.

This is what we are looking at with three quarter sidelights. Very nice! Do you feel it is private at night?

Re: Three quarter glass door or oval door

My front door is awkwardly in front of the stairs that lead to my upstairs...basic Cape set up...so I don't feel there are any privacy issues. If we have the interior landing light on you'd see us walking by but more like shadows. There are only 2 pieces of the door that are clear - everything else is textured in a way that you can't see clearly through it.
