South Massapequa area moms....

I just don't feel happy with the grocery stores around here.... where do you shop for:

Fruit and Vegetables?
Meat?

Thanks!

Best Yet.

I haven't been yet, but Uncle Guiseppes is supposedly really good too, but pricey.

For fruit and veggies I go to Trader Joe's in Merrick or Stop and Shop in Amityville (neither one is very close, but I don't like the other place nearby). I don't buy meat, so no help there, sorry!

I'm not a mom but I live South Massapequa - I shop at King Kullen or Super Stop and Shop on Hempstead Turnpike (Seaford/Bethpage area)...(its a slight hike but worth it!) I cannot deal with Pathmark anymore!

My mom lives in Seaford - she goes to the Stop and Shop in Levittown on Hempstead Tpke but I believe that the Waldbaum's in Massapequa on Hicksville Rd was recently renovated and nicer than it used to be.

the waldbaums on hicksville road is my worst nightmare! i hate that place with a passion. the aisles are sooo tight. they have hardly any baskets and when i asked the manager he said people steal them and we arent planning on getting anymore! and everytime i go there to just pick up one last thing, thats the thing they dont have anymore left of!

i like king kullen, and i actually go to the stop and shop in farmingdale. its gorgeous and not that far if you just take 135 to boundary , make a right on merrits it takes me about 8 minutes to get there.

Luckily i dont go food shopping often, we rarely eat at home so i just run in and out for a few things

Peapod for everything else. I do an order once a month and meal plan once a month. I buy enough meat/chicken/pork/dairy/cereal/frozen foods (waffles, pancakes, bacon, veggies, etc) to get me through the month. I used to do monthly shopping at BJs but with the twins its just too hard. Besides, the impulse buys at BJs wind up costing an arm and a leg, its not just a bag of m&m's its a whole gallon Chat Icon

About every 2 months I will venture to Trader Joe's. I like their ready made fried rice, frozen pizzas, etc for nights I don't really have time to cook.

Re: South Massapequa area moms....

Does Best Yet have organic produce and meats?

For produce I go to Trader Joes in Merrick and for everything else stop and shop/Peapod
I also take a trip once a month to Fairway in plainview for their organic meats

Re: South Massapequa area moms....

I'm a town over, and I do most of my shopping at Stop & Shop in Amityville.

Believe it or not, Target sometimes has a decent selection of produce, and it's often cheaper than Stop & Shop. I go to the one in Copiague.

The only thing I hate about Stop&Shop though is their produce sometimes gets picked over on the weekends.

Re: South Massapequa area moms....

I go to Trader Joe's every week in Merrick. I'm a SAHM so I go when there's less traffic and it takes me no time to get there and home. I go to Fairway every 2 weeks and Whole Foods once a week. DS and I eat almost completely organic, but before I started going to Fairway and WF I went to S&S in Amityville.

Re: South Massapequa area moms....

I really wish they'd hurry up and build a freakin' Trader Joes already in the Massapequa area.

I can't understand why there isn't one...........there's certainly enough people who would be supportive of it.

Only downside is it would be too easy for me to spend more $$$$ on food stuffs. Chat Icon

I've made the trek myself to the Merrick one before, but have stopped with the cost of gas and time.

Re: South Massapequa area moms....

Best Yet...their prices are great. They dont have much if any organic though. That dissapoints me.

I too am so looking for a whole foods/Fairway/TJ's over here!

I was just thinking of this today, how the old Nautilus diner would be such a perfect Fairway/Whole foods location and that area would be perfect for it.

Went to uncle Guiseppes today, not impressed at all. Over prices on most items.

I also go to the King Kullen on Montauk across from the Massapequa HS ..they have a huge natural/organic selection but the prices stink.

I swear I go to like 6-7 different stores over the course of the month for items.

Target-household staples and canned/boxed items/heathcare/beauty items
Trader Joes-Produce and speciality frozen foods
Fairway or Whole Foods-Organic Meats/hard to find items
King Kullen- everyday natural/organic items
Pathmark or Shoprite- any sale items ( juice, detergent, etc)
Best Yet-Produce/Cold Cuts

Re: South Massapequa area moms....

I get all my meat from Sal's Meat Market it is right across the street from all american.. They have the best meat.

I sometime go to King Kullen in southgate or Pathmark hasn't been to bad for fruits and veggies. I also go to a same I think it is a Korean market in the same parking lot as pathmark in seaford for fruits and veggie it is a little more expensive but soo worth it.. DH also gets his fish there!
