Speaking of milk
Currently, in Lancaster County, there's news over an Amish guy, selling raw milk over State lines.
http://lancasteronline.com/article/local/397980_Local-farm-in-middle-of-fight-over-raw-milk.html
Here's another article about NY milk runs: http://lancasteronline.com/article/local/351060_Plain-make-illegal-N-Y--milk-runs.html
Folks who drink raw milk, say it's healthier, and tastes better. I'm too afraid of e-coli, and tuberculosis to drink raw milk!!! And if they saw an Amish barn, I wonder if it would change their minds about getting raw milk from Amish. ( relatives are Amish) Some raw milk providers go through testing, etc., and say their milk is safe. I don't know. Mary

Re: Speaking of milk
Yes it does taste better IMO. We aren't able to get it locally any more though. They sell it in Florida, so when I visit my brothers I get it there.
ETA: I am referring to raw goat milk not cow milk and we didn't get it from an Amish farm

I saw my farm Cousins squirting milk from the cow at the cats running in the barn, but personally I've never tried this technique!!! Mary

Re: Speaking of milk
I had fresh from the cow milk in Italy. . . it reminds me of a milkshake LOL I liked it.
But, I wouldn't buy it for fear of disease.
My brother's neighbors get "illegal milk deliveries" LOL and they swear by it for their kids!

The illegal milk delivery is killing me!
I've also had fresh, right off the teet milk and it was good..but I would also be worried about disease.

Re: Speaking of milk
I keep seeing it more and more in the stores. I just may try it, although I have been sticking with coconut milk and away from most dairy.

Hi, Tilde!!!! I'm a germaphobe, so I won't drink raw milk, but my DH is former Amish, farm boy. I think he drank raw milk, and is still here to tell the tale!!!! Mary

Re: Speaking of milk
Did it taste better than pasturized? Ya know, if I could be assured that the farm where the raw milk came from, had passed all kinds of strict handling rules, I might be tempted to taste,..... oh, who am I kidding? Nah, I'm a scaredy cat, but wait speaking of cats, they drink it and live!!!! Hmmmmm, maybe, ......nahhhhh. Mary

Have you ever looked at the labels, if they have any, and seen if the milk passed any testing? Just curious. Thanks!! Coconut milk sounds good. Where it can be purchased? Mary

Re: Speaking of milk
I am too scared to try that...in general dairy doesn't sit well with me. I'm becoming more and more fearful of hormones and such.
The goat milk was the most adventurous I've been since my attepmts with soy, almond, rice, oat and hemp milk. (IMO, of those almond tastes the best. You never need to try oat or hemp milk!)

I found it at whole foods years ago when I having major problem with cow's and soy milk and decided to try it. I couldn't get beyond the fact that it was made from hemp seeds It has a nutty taste - but I'd rather have almond milk!

Mary, the raw goat milk that we used to drink was from a farm where the goats were "blue ribbon" winning goats from a goat association. The quality of milk was good, my whole family drank it for many years and never got sick.
Goats have a better diet than cows and less prone to disease. The pasteurization process also kills the enzymes that control bacteria, so pasteurized milk may in fact have more bacterial growth. Still it is very important to make sure it is coming from a clean environment.
The milk that they sell in Florida has a disclaimer on it (to get around the legal issues) that it intended for animal use, but most people consume it anyway! I'm sure it has to be inspected on some level since it is sold commercially.
