Re: Planning to switch to Dr. Braverman but few questions?

Dr. B is my absolute hero, he gave me my Chat Icon . I dont think many of his patients are/stay as "unexplained infertility" because he does a lot of testing that more times than not uncovers issues that other doctors dont test for or dont "believe in" (immunology in relation to infertility and miscarriage is considered unproven to a lot of the medical community and they reject it).

to address your concerns:

1. yes he is an ob/gyn and to be honest i have no clue what other education he has in regards specifically to infertility. i just know he's got a ton of women, including me, pregnant. i do not believe is an actual endocrinologist. i would probably call him an immunologist but im not sure if he technically has (or if there even is) the educational background to be called that.

2. i did my ER/ET at AFS. i had no issues although aesthetically AFS isnt the greatest place on earth. i didnt have any issue with the staff or anything. i read up on their embryologists at the time and did not have a problem. i was concerned that their stats arent great and i tried to get him to do mine at SIRM, however at the time it was not possible. so i settled with AFS and i had a good outcome - 18 retrieved, all fertilized, put back 2, froze 8, BFP, just gave birth to my baby girl on may 14th. when/if we are ready for #2 i plan to move my embies to wherever dr. B does his cycles. i have heard very good things about dr. Batzofin, where he currently does a majority of his cycles.

3. when he switched from AFS to dr. Batzofin for IVF i think he had to change a lot of things since AFS originally processed all the billing. this lead to him being dropped by many insurers, not sure why. although i have heard they are reapplying to most of the carriers. i also heard that AFS accepts more insurances than Batzofin so if i HAD to in order to keep coverage i would do an FET at AFS. not sure if thats still relevant info though because theres been a lot of changes with his coverage.

sorry some of my dr. B info may be outdated since i was released from him in December and theres been a ton of changes since then, especially insurance wise.

all i can say is that ive never met another doctor like dr. B. i still email with him at least once a month. i wish i could see him as my ob/gyn and i begged him several times to deliver my baby (although i ended up with an emergency cs at 33 weeks so that wouldnt have worked anyway). he isnt for everyone, but for me, he was perfect. good luck with whomever you choose!!

Re: Planning to switch to Dr. Braverman but few questions?

Hi! Im a patient of Dr. Bravermans for almost a year. He is my 4th doctor in 7yrs. He came highly recommended to me by a woman I know who works in the diner we go to. He helped her get pregnant with twins on her first try after she had tried for many many years.

Dr. Braverman is very different from any of the doctors I have seen. Some women love him and others don't. After I started seeing him it felt like other women I knew had seen him. My breast surgeons office manager use to work with him when he ran an OBGYN's office, she loved him. The nurse at my OBGYN's office was trained by him. I have never heard a bad thing said about him except for one person who sent me a message on this board about him. I think it's a matter of how you feel with him. His personality is different from any doctor I have seen and it works for my husband and I. He is so smart and found out things, immune issues that none of the other doctors saw.

Some women have issues that he does not do the ER or ET. I had my most recent ET at Dr. Batzofin's office last Tuesday. I loved it there. My husband and I got off the elevator and were amazed by it. They were so nice there. I loved the staff and the embryologist and I can't say enough about Dr. Batzofin. He was so nice. If I were you I would also look him up so you have some info about them.

It does not bother me at all that Dr. B does not do the ER or ET. He runs the show, monitors me decides what protocol to put me on, he makes the decisions on how many to transfer. I had more eggs this time then I ever did in any cycle. I totally trust him!

I pay out of pocket. My insurance does not cover IVF so I chose to go to the new office in the city. I had no problems at AFS, I liked them but for this IVF I wanted to try something new.

I love the staff there however sometimes I do feel that the wait time is longer then at most places but that is because they are very thorough with each patient.
If you need anymore info please FM me. I would love to help you in anyway. Im not sure if this IVF worked however I know Dr. Braverman will not give up on me and I think that is why my whole attitude has changed, I truly believe he will guide my DH and I to a baby.

I'm pretty sure he IS a RE. My insurance required me to go to an actual RE to be covered and he was on their plan. I asked my dr and they said he went back to school for it. I could be wrong but this is what I was told.

I don't have any experience with the new or the AFS office but from what I hear, the new office is better.

As for insurance chances, those all happened when he was mo longer with AFS. Some companies wouldn't let him back on as a RE because they only wanted huge IVF centers so they can pay them crap and work on volume.

I got pregnant back in Nov on my first IUI with Dr. B. I did everything at his Woodbury office, and my ins covered everything, but again his office has made recent changes that I don't know about.

I know that everyone has different issues and it won't work that way for everyone, all I can say is Dr. B is truly an amazing man and I believe that any patient of his is in the best hands possible. Good Luck! Chat Icon

Re: Planning to switch to Dr. Braverman but few questions?

Dr. B was my 4th RE after seeing two of the "top" REs in the city. Ironically, Dr. Batzofin was my first RE and I left him when I wanted to start IVF due to insurance preferences. Dr. Batzofin is a wonderful Dr., very like Dr. B and he has a great bedside manner.

Every Dr. prior to Dr. B recommended donor eggs for my situation. I had read so much about Dr. B on here but I thought it would be too inconvenient to see him in Woodbury because I work in the City and live on the South shore in Suffolk. The monitoring at AFS worked out really well for me. I don't know what the hours are at Batzofin's but I was able to get all my monitoring done before work and I only have good things to say about AFS. At my first appt with Dr. B he mentioned so many other options for my diagnosis that I immediately knew I had to give him a shot and it was the best decision I ever made.

I did have two failed IVFs at first with Dr. B but he persevered and tweaked my protocol each time with better results. I am now 17 weeks pregnant with my miracle baby. If I had believed what every other RE had advised I would never be pregnant with our own baby.

My current RE said I will need to do an IVF since IUIs never worked for me. So if I switch to Dr. B, I am assuming he will want to do the same thing but I guess it will depend on the test results.

Not necessarily. My friend was told by other REs that IVF was the only way, but Dr. B said her chances were the same with natural, IUI and IVF because there was an underlying immune issue. Once they treated it, she got pregnant.
