When you go to your doctors appts...
Do you get to see you OB/GYN or do you see someone else in the practice? I am getting a little bit peeved that i have seen my doctor twice since i got pregnant. Today i saw a nurse practitioner and i am going to see her again at my 32 week appointment. I think being this far along and with twins i should be seeing him directly.
And the nurse practioner knows nothing. Any question i ask her she's like i'll talk to him and have someone call you.
Just wondering if this is the norm.

Re: When you go to your doctors appts...
I always see my Dr. Once I went in for an emergency, and I saw another Dr. in the practice, but then my dr. saw me in the hall and came over to make sure everything was OK.

Re: When you go to your doctors appts...
I go to a practive with around 6 different doctors, but I always see the doctor. You can make an appt with the NP, but I always make my appts with the doctor only. I always see the nurse first, then the doc. That's weird that you usually see them? Especially with twins?

Re: When you go to your doctors appts...
I do always see a doctor in my practice at every appointment - but to be honest I spend a LOT more time with the nurses than my doctor at any given appointment (except for the first appt when the doctor spend a LOT of time with me )
There are 4 doctors at the practice I go to, and in this office you do have a 'primary' doctor but they like you to visit with everyone so that you are familiar with them, and vice versa. I have now seen every doctor and luckily I love them ALL but again, I prob. see them no more than 5-10 minutes to go over things with me so I cannot believe they really remember who I am
The nurses do everything - check heartbeat w/doppler, weigh, take blood, go over any new symptoms and mark them down, that sort of thing. Then the doctor comes in and goes over what the nurse marked down, tells me about any upcoming tests, goes over any tests in the past, measures my belly, and I'm out of there!
In your case though Ali, I would be a little upset that you haven't seen your doctor all that much throughout your entire pregnancy. Especially having twins, I think I'd want that reassurance to be seeing the doctor that will be delivering your babies - I don't think that is an unreasonable request at all
GL!

There are two OB in the practice that I go to. I always see either of them. I see either of them because if one is not available when I give birth, then the other one is. I like both of them very much and feel very comfortable with either or.

Re: When you go to your doctors appts...
There are 3 OBs who do deliveries at my practice, so I made it a point to see all of them just in case my primary OB isn't on duty when I deliver...But I've always been seen by an OB.

Same with me. I have been seen by every OB in the practice and I am always seen by an OB

Re: When you go to your doctors appts...
Hi Ali. I think you go to Dr. Braverman. I didn't seem him till very latre in my pregnancy. Toward the end I would request an appt directly with him.
Be aware that when you so have an appt to see him you will wait longer and can have him cancel at the last minute if he has to run to the hospital.
Which NP do you see? I love Robin but she is like never there anymore

Re: When you go to your doctors appts...
I only see my doctor at every other visit and for the sonograms. Every other visit I see the NP. The appts are so short anyway, just checking heartbeat and measuring my stomach/uterus and going over any changes or concerns.

Re: When you go to your doctors appts...
I got to a practice with a number of doctors, however I see my OB every visit. The nurse does the blood pressure, weight and urine, but my OB checks the heartbeat and asks me if I have any questions.
The only time I saw another doctor was when he was on vacation. I also see my OB for all sono's (including the first tri ultrascreen and level II) since he is a perintologist.

Re: When you go to your doctors appts...
I think it depends on the office. I go to one with two doctors and I always see mine at every appointment. In the beginning of this pregnancy, I tried toing to an office with several doctors and they stressed many times that I would be seeing every doctor in there at least once just in case my doctor wasn't available when the baby was born.

I always see my Dr.- though it's usually for under 5 minute. She comes in, asks if I have any questions, and then she's out.

There are two OBs in my practice and I always see one of them. I would not feel comfortable seeing just a NP. I like how both of my OBs are very familiar with my condition. I can call at any time and they know who I am and what's going on.

I saw all the drs at one point bc they wanted me to get to know them incase one of them were on call when I had the baby. I liked one soooo much more than my dr and she was the one who delivered Katie and now I see her instead of my original OB. I liked seeing all the drs at my group.

For your situation, I would be upset. You shold be seeing your doctor more, especially since you are having twins. I would request an appointment with him if you could.
