My night in L & D : UPDATE

What a day I had yesterday! Since I'm on strict bed rest, I try to move myself from the bed to the couch to the recliner. Yesterday, I couldn't get comfortable. I had intense lower back pain and my belly was hard and also painful. I called my doctor who advised me to get to the hospital immediately. All I kept thinking about was . I'm 32 weeks 3 days.

I had the NST for the twins and their heartbeats were good but I was having lots of contractions. The FFN came back negative which I was happy about and there was no protein in my urine. My cervical length had dropped to 2.2cm, down from 3.2cm two weeks ago, but on the positive side, my cervix was still closed (after two painful cervical exams)...ouch!

My doctor wanted me to stay overnight because of the contractions but I insisted on going home at 1am. They only allowed this since the cervix had not opened.

I was able to get a good night sleep last night but this was such a big scare. I'm definitely getting my hospital bag ready within the next few days. Fortunately, I have an appointment with my OB tomorrow and she is going to repeat the cervical length and NST. My doctors thought I'd be able to deliver at 38 weeks but I think that's pushing it!!

UPDATE: I just got back from my doctor's appointment. I didn't get to see my usual OB since she was stuck at the hospital. I had my cervical length checked today and it was 2.8cm, which is a lot better than Tuesday night's measurement. Both boys seem to be head down now after Baby B was transverse for the longest time. My cervix is still closed...thank goodness! I'm going to continue to keep my feet up!!! The doctor even told me to have a glass of wine!! LOL

Let's get you to 34 weeks!!! Stay on strict bedrest, as much as it drives you crazy! Keep those cooking! Did you get the steriod shot?

oh man! glad you were able to go home. Hopefully those little boys stay in there a little longer!!

Girly I know exactly how you feel. When I was in the hospital all I could think about was what was best for my two little girls. That was when i was 31 weeks and the docs were hoping I would make it to 33 weeks. Now I'm a day shy of 35 weeks and still going strong. Mind you.. I am 1cm dilated (even with a cerclage) and 80% effaced. So its GREAT that ur cervix is still 2.2 and closed!!!

make sure u do as little as possible and that u stay put to ensure that ur little ones stay cooking for a little longer.

Please keep us posted on ur appt tomorrow and rub ur bely and talk to ur little ones and tell them to stay put just a couple more weeks.

I was thinking about you last night when I was at the hospital. I remembered all that you had gone through at 31 weeks. I'm so glad to hear that you are close to 35 weeks!! This was definitely a big eye opener for me. I told my husband that he needs to learn how to cook and I need a mini fridge by the bed! I'm not going anywhere!!! I'll keep in touch!!

I just saw your post! STAY OFF YOUR FEET! It works! No cooking Drink lots and lots of water it will help with the contractions.

I'm sorry you had to spend the night at the hospital Hope you are feeling better!

Thanks so much! It's amazing what a difference a day makes! I'm feeling so much better today and I'm keeping my legs elevated. The water is definitely helping. I just felt so bad that my poor sister, at 39 weeks prego, came to my rescue!
