if you had keratin straightening done ...
What salon, or what brand did they use? What shampoo/conditioner did you use after? What was your hair like before and after? How often do you wash your hair? How long did it last?
I use Coppola, the whole kit. My hair went from curly to wavy. I cheat on shampoo and use biomega, which is a no no for keratin, but I love this shampoo. I used to wash and blow out a couple times a week 3 months
But with warmer weather, I feel like I want to wash my hair more often. The curl is coming back much faster with more washing. And I'm going away for few days without DS, thinking of using a stronger product, while away from him.

1. Salon Luna in Bellmore. They used something they described as "mid range" - not the cheapest, but not the most expensive. It wasn't Coppola. It might have started with an L.
2. First I used what they sold me, then I got the sulfate free shampoo and conditioner from Trader Joe's.
3. It was frizzy and wavy before. I got it done almost exactly a month ago and it's almost back to normal.
4. I wash every other day.
5. Not long enough.
Not one of your questions, but I'm disappointed. I am following all the rules and the effects are almost gone. It was nice the first week or so - softer, less tangled, easier to blow out. But it didn't last, and even when it did, I still had to use plenty of product which I was hoping not to have to do.
Since I hear Coppola is the way to go, I am going to try that in late June so I can have the effects for the summer - or part of the summer. If that doesn't last as long as described, I give up. It's too much $$ to only last a couple of weeks.

Sulfate free isn't good enough, it has to be sodium free too! That's probably why it didn't last long enough.
Sodium breaks down keratin, but it doesn't hurt your hair at all. In fact some of the best shampoos are sodium based.
Sulfates can damage your hair and your hair folicle, but they do nothing to keratin.

Re: if you had keratin straightening done ...
Colori Bella in East Rockaway I am not sure of which product they used I used different shampoos since - all for Keratin (Loreal, Paul Mitchell Awaphui and another one that I forget the name but got at the salon I had naturally curly hair and now 10 months later the curl is just starting to come back.
It lasted an extremely long time on me. For the first few months I could air dry and it would be straight!
And only in the last few weeks when I have been in humid conditions have I noticed the frizz starting to come back slightly -- so I will probably do it again before the end of June.
I try not to wash my hair everyday but it all depends. If I wash it at night I put in a leave in conditioner and then just wet it in the morning before I blow it dry.
The biggest difference it made for me is barely having to use straightening iron anymore!

I too, was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. I went to a nice salon in Babylon Village, and immediately did not experience any of the positive most people describe, less frizz, easy to dry, etc. After the first washing, I could not get why anyone would pay $200 for this?
I am going to try one more time for the summer. If not, Im done.

I don't remember exactly but I think about $200 -- it maybe a little more now. At the time I had long hair (middle of my back).

Thank you - do you remember who you used? Sounds like you were happy there. I'm in Long Beach so that's really close for me.

Sodium breaks down keratin, but it doesn't hurt your hair at all. In fact some of the best shampoos are sodium based.
After reading this I checked the Trader Joe's conditioner I was using and it did have sodium in it, so I'll discontinue its use. However, it was only the second to last ingredient which means there's very little. Also, I just got it last week so I've only used it three or four times, and the effects started to wear off way before I bought it. It can't be to blame for the fact that the treatment didn't last long. Definitely good to know about the sodium, though.
I'm going for a trim today so I'll ask my stylist what she thinks.

Re: if you had keratin straightening done ...
1. I have it done at Hair Effex in Bellmore. I do not know the product they use, but according to my stylist, for my hair type they have to use a stronger formula.
2. I use Loreal Everpure shampoo and conditioner. I don't like the brands you get at the salon, they make my hair feel greasy, rather than clean.
3. My hair is very thick, with a mixture of curls and waves and gets extremely frizzy. When I have the treatment it is very straight and smooth. Takes out 100% of the frizz.
4. I wash my hair every 2-3 days.
5. It will last me a good 4-5 months. I have it done twice a year.

I just got it done at Colori Bella. Rachel did it for me. She also does my normal cut/color. This is the 2nd yr I have had it done here and love it!! Good Luck!
