getting ovidrel covered by ins- update: success!!!
I have 2 insurances and neither cover ovidrel. anyone have any adivice on appealing? tia!
Update: I called my primary ins and I guess they only deal with freedom. My doc sent a new script to freedom pharmacy and my ins accepted it. $50 copay and the extra $30 no longer applicable since the ins covered it. I don't understand why the first pharmacy couldn't do this or even explain ot to me. Im going to call them tomorrow to ask them. Thanks everyone for ur advice.

Re: getting ovidrel covered by ins
Ovidrel should be like $44. My insurance would cover it but it was not generic so paying for it was cheaper than the $50 brand price. I got mine from Freedom Pharmacy.

I have Emp BCBS and GHI and the pharmacy said it was going to be $105. That's not a HUGE deal but since I have a week before I need it, I figured I'd try to appeal it.

At least get it from Freedom Pharmacy because the out of pocket cost is about $60

They can deliver it the next day as long as you get it ordered by 5.
Good luck!
ETA: I checked the website and it's actually $65, but it's still better than the 105.

Re: getting ovidrel covered by ins
I paid OOP $105 too b/c my insurance couldnt get it approved in time (takes 48 hrs). I didn't even know there was a generic. Is it the same stuff or is it like hcg where you need to mix yourself? They suggested this to me b/c it was only $65 OOP.

Re: getting ovidrel covered by ins
i have empire BCBS also and when i went to fill it at CVS, they charged me $105. i found out that i had to order from a special injectibles pharmacy that the insurance company uses. it was $50 (my highest copay) and i actually got reimbursed the difference from the first rx that i overpaid on. i would call and see if maybe it's the same deal for you.

thanks, i called empire bcbs and they told me that they cant tell me whether they can cover it until they get the script, so Im waiting for the doc to send it. They deal with Freedom Pharmacy.
Also, Daisy, with Freedom it is $65 but the manufacturer charges a $30 handling fee on top of that for every Ovidrel order so it would be the same price OOP!!!

Re: getting ovidrel covered by ins
Really? That's crazy. I only had to order ovidrel twice before I had to move on to IVF and it was $50 from Freedom. I knew it went up, but I didn't hear about the extra 30. The insurance companies drive me crazy.

Re: getting ovidrel covered by ins
I have Oxford and I only ever paid $44 for the actual brand and never had to pay for shipping ever through freedom pharmacy (and I have used them more than most people ever should). Though I haven't used it in 2 years. And I used it for all my IUI's (3 of them) and my first 2 IVF cycles. Its prefilled and the easiest of all the shots, as its subQ. I hated when they switched me to the hcg IM shots.

Re: getting ovidrel covered by ins
I wouldn't go through insurance and just pay the $50 through Freedom Fertility.
