SO disappointed in Mars 2112

DH and I took DS to the city last night and decided to try out Mars 2112 because I had heard good things (mostly on here).

We walked in, and the first thing we noticed was the $2 charge per person just for sitting in the restaurant.

The "ride" was broken so we just walked into the restaurant.

I didn't know what to expect but I did not expect it to be so dark, so red, and so LOUD. While we were there they raised the volume about 5 times. I couldn't hear DS at ALL.

There was ONE alien in the entire place, he came to our table once at the beginning and then stood around at the side where all of the servers were bullsh!tting.

We ordered drinks before looking at the menu. Big mistake! Boring, boring boring food and totally overpriced. Nothing I was even remotely interested in eating and DS was so freaked out my the noise he didn't want any food. He couldn't even see the freaking color of the crayons he was using.

We had to track down our server twice and we were only there about 10-15 minutes! We left saying that DS didn't feel well and thankfully they didn't charge us the extra $2 per person.

Awful, horrible experience, we'll never go back.

OMG..Im glad we werent the only ones that hated that place. My husband and I took my niece last year and the minute I walked in I felt dirty!

i was annoyed that we had to "pay" for the ride, the food was horrible and way too expensive for mac and cheese and my feet kept sticking to the floor....GROSS!!

Never again and we wont recommend it to anyone!

DH & I went there a few years ago bc we had just seen a show in the area (can't remember which one) and thought it would be cool. We thought it was GROSS, drity, loud, cheap..just GROSS. We didn't eat either, just had drinks and left.

We went the first year it was open and it was a total disappointment. It reminded me of Rainforest Cafe... you go more for the novelty than the food.

See and I thought I was in the minority for disliking the place.

I walked in and walked OUT! ha!

Neat to walk into for the 5mins but not worth sitting down. I took a look at the menu and said "blah and expensive blah, hellz no" I forgot what it cost but the HAMBURGER was ridiculous so I vetoed it.

I can say I've seen it, been in it and walked out of it.

I never send my friends visiting NY to Mars 2112 to eat, but invite them to go look at it.

Funny thing is I hear its on a few lists of places to take your kids in NYC.

I went ther and I HATED it.

the burger was AWFUL. and a joint like that should NOT make an awful burger.

It was a lot of hype for nothing good in return. Jekyll and Hyde was much more fun, but DS may be too young for that.

It's definitely past it's prime, but I have to say DD can't stop talking about it. A whole year later she keeps asking me if we're going to Mars this weekend (taking them to Lincoln Center to see Peter and the wolf)

She loves it so much b/c she totally believes she went to Mars. And it's funny to hear her tell family that Aliens live in NYC.

LOL they sure do...

Anyway it was gross and overpriced, but yeah we'll totally be going back. Its really the only theme restaurant left- jekyll is fun but way too scary and over their heads, same goes for planet hollywood, hard rock etc.

And I have to say, it was lunch and totally empty but our server was really great, the aliens did a whole dance routine that DD loved and she even hugged the girl one. Maybe its a hit or miss as far as the entertainment.

that place is nasty- I would never EVER go there.. tourist trap w/ bad food.

It is overrated, overpriced and gross. I agree, it is the novelty.

Hated it as well.
Dont worry, you didnt miss anything with the ride...that sucked too.

I hated it too...never going back!! I was beyond ****** I had to carry the stroller up and down the stairs too...while PREGNANT

How can they not have an elevator????

I went once with some friends when we were all single and never went back again. It's a tourist trap with bad food and high prices!
