Progesterone question...super confused
Today my Dr.'s office called me; my primary care doctor. The girl told me that my progesterone was low and that the Dr. wants me to take a progesterone supplement 1x a day and that I could get it OTC. I asked the girl what the name of it was and I thought she said Zitec. I went to the pharmacist at CVS and they NEVER heard of it and on top of that said you can't get progesterone OTC. Now I told the girl on the phone that I hadn't O-ed yet. It was actually 3 days before O that I had the bloodwork. So I said my progesterone would be lower than normal anyway, but I guess she said it was still low?
So my question is what's up with this OTC progesterone she said I could get? and Why should I be taking progesterone every day??? I thought it was just after you O. I'm going to call tomorrow to clarify again, but I think I should also check with my OBGYN too. I told them to send me the lab report.
UPDATE: In my research I found something called Vitex. Considering I was driving home at the time I was talking to the girl telling me what to take. I'm thinking this could be what she was talking about. Anyone hear of Vitex???

The only OTC progesterone I know of is a cream... Idk what it's called though! I've seen it on amazon a few times!

This sounds way sketchy to me. Prog prior to ovulation is expected to be below 3. Then rises appropriately after. I have never heard of a OTC prog supp and to me, doesn't make sense taking prior to ovulation.

Yeah, something's not right. She's a very reputable Dr., but I never heard of taking progesterone daily. I'm going to call tomorrow, but still interested if anyone else has some insight.

Update at the top girls....I'm a dope! I think I totally misunderstood the name of what they told me to take since I was driving while talking to the girl. I thought they said Zitec, but it's Vitex. Sounds like what she'd be recommending.
