Silly ? for those with central A/C

DH and I are looking into getting it installed in our house since both our in wall a/c units died last summer. I'm just curious as to what the vents/return vent looks like. Are they an eye sore? Does anyone have pictures they could share?

I don't think they are an eyesore. The vents and return are in the ceiling. We have one vent in most rooms - 2 in the larger rooms. The return is in my hallway. Unless someone is looking up you wouldn't even notice them.

Re: Silly ? for those with central A/C

Just had CAC installed in the Fall. I think mine look nice. New CAC vent covers look nothing like the old time vent covers. They are so modern looking that you don't even notice them. The return is large but still not awful, however they try to place these in the least conspicious locations.

To me the bigger issue is having a company that does precise measurements and placing of the vents in the most ideal spots in each room, in addition to installing vent covers straight and not crooked, for continuity, flow and appearance.

A sloppy CAC job can look hideous I am sure.

Pic is of a ceiling vent. No return pics but every house would have a different size return anyway. But mine is large, about 2X3 ft.

They vents (if done properly) should not be too noticeable at hideous at all.

Our return vent is quite large as well but it is so hidden no one would ever notice.

My parents have vents like Goobster posted in their ceiling (we only have floor) but then for their floor vents they got the decorative ones and the look nice.

Ceiling vents are pretty small... MUCH less of an eye sore than a wall ac unit!

My husband installs A/C on the side & when he put it in our home he did floor vents. It looks nice with the hardwood floors.

Like the pp's stated, the vents aren't even noticeable unless a guest happens to look up at the ceiling. Our old wall units were much more of an eyesore.

Our return is pretty big (I think it's 2'x3'), but it's located in the hallway right outside of our bedroom so it's pretty well hidden. Unless someone is headed down to our basement (which is on the other end), no even goes down that hall.

On another note, the benefits to having CAC have been huge for me. I've always suffered from terrible allergies & asthma and was uncomfortable almost all of the time year-round. Since installing the CAC (w/the HEPA filter) my health has improved TREMENDOUSLY! I will never live in a home without CAC again. If one or both of you has allergies or asthma I'd definitely recommend that you go for it Chat Icon

Thank you all. I feel much better about getting it done now. I didn't even think of the benefits for allergies...I suffer from them terribly. Thanks again!

My DH has asthma and allergies. We haven't used our CAC yet but we expect a huge benefit. The Lennox CAC unit we had installed also has a HEPA filter on it and even the returns have filters (not Hepa). So we will be breathing the cleanest air ever in a home once we start using it.
