These 1 hour and 3 hour tests people keep referring to on the pregnancy board? And what does "failing" mean in regards to it. I have no idea about any of it and yet i'm scared lol

exactly. You go for your one hour, they make you drink a thing that tastes like crazy sweet orange soda. After an hour they draw your blood and test to see how you metabolized the sugar. If its fine, no further testing, on your way you go.

If you fail, you go back in for the 3 hour version of the test.

yup. you start with the 1 hour and if you pass then you are fine. If you fail the 1 hour then you have to take the 3 hour. If you fail that you have GD.

I am scared of the drink

Honestly I was scared too but it wasn't nearly as bad as everyone told me. It tasted like super-sweet, flat soda. Mine was lemon-line the first time and orange the second. The lab I use keeps them cold, and you have 5 minutes to drink it (but I chugged mine). I felt fine the whole time and passed both times. It's not scary at all Chat Icon

Yeah the drinks really aren't that bad IMO. And as long as you get someone who draws blood well it's easy. I did not and my arms were tore up. BTW I didn't have the test for GD, it was testing by my RE since I have PCOS and they wanted to see if I was insulin resistant.

I did this when I was pregnant last year and it tasted like flat orange soda from a really bad brand Chat Icon Nothing to be afraid of, it just wouldn't be my drink of choice!

That's good that they keep the drinks cold. It could be worse.

Re: What are...

i just did my 1hr (im 29w) and failed Chat Icon so i have to go back for the 3hr next week.

i have PCOS and have been on metformin the whole pregnancy since it's supposed to help prevent GD which is common for PCOSers.

the drink itself isnt too bad at first - like the others said its like flat orange soda. the worst thing about it is that you have to drink the whole thing in 5 minutes which gets kinda sickening towards the end.
