Q's w/Folic Acid Vitamins & Irregular Periods/Getting off BC

Hello. I am ready for kids but I wanted to give us some time after I got off BC.

This is because I have always had an irregular period so I have been on birth control for a VERY long time. I tried to get off of it once before, and I didn't get my period for an entire year afterwards and it was never very normal. I also got severe acne so the doctor put me back on birth control. Well, I got off again a month and a half ago and I still have not gotten my period.

Do any other irregular girls have experience with this? How long did it take your period to regulate? I have no idea what my cycle is because I am not getting my period. It worries me.

I also want to start taking a daily vitamin with a lot of folic acid because I know folic acid is recommended and in prenatal vitamins. Any OTC ones you can recommend?

You should see your obgyn ASAP. I know women who've taken a pill to get their period.
I take women's one a day prenatals. Most prenatals vary slightly so you'll be good with a generic pill. I take mine at night before bed otherwise I have an upset stomach and nausea.

Eta: read the first thead. There's tons of good FYI

Agreed... do you know what was causing your irregular periods before you went on BC?

you need to find that out first...

i take Target Brand Prenatals

Im taking Rainbow Light prenatals. They are pretty well coated and have cultures so they're really good for your stomach. I have a SUPER sensitive stomach and i take them after breakfast or lunch with no problem.

in terms of the BCP I was in a similar situation and got off BCP, didnt get AF for months. I went to the GYN and fouind out I have PCOS and dont ovulate which changed my course in TTC. Not saying that you might have this, it could just be your body still regulating. But definitely get it checked out!

I wish I did, I had three different gynocologists growing up. I hated the first two because they didn't seem to care about me or my concerns and then I found my third. She is also very laid back though and just pushed birth control on me as well. Later, I went to my regular physician and he said I might have PCOS. My gynocologist agrees but said to treat it with birth control. I feel like I should see an endocronologist since they can tell me whats really going on with my hormones and such, but I have no idea how to go about that or what it entails.

I would see your OB or maybe even a RE and get checked for PCOS and other issues that may be causing your irregular periods. I too was wildly irregular and planned to give my cycle a chance to regulate before hardcore TTC, but we decided to wing it and somehow got pregnant my first cycle off the pill. It was a 58 day cycle though and I didn't even know I had ovulated! Chat Icon Had I not gotten pregnant I was going to get provera from my OB after 78 days to bring on AF and if my cycle didn't regulate in a few months they would have done testing.
