Bumpers

I took the bumpers off of Sydney's crib a while ago because she was rolling so close to them I was worried about her suffocating.
Last night she was doing her usual rolling to settle herself to go to sleep and she puts her feet on the rail and likes to have them elevated. I left the room for a minute and she started crying. I thought nothing of it and gave her a few minutes to see if she would settle down. She didnt and I went back in to find her leg wedged between two rails. I pushed her leg back through and she was fine. But now I am wondering, do I put the bumper back on??

Re: Bumpers

I never removed my bumpers. My 1st DS slept in a crib until he was 2 years 10 months old (when he moved into a twin bed). He loved the bumpers and would roll one corner into a sort of pillow and sleep on that.
My 13 month old sleeps with his head pressed up into his bumper. I would never remove them.
If your worried about suffocation, maybe:
* sew extra ties around the bumper and secure very tight to crib rails.
*invest in a video monitor. I could NEVER live without that!!
*also invest in an Angel monitor (SIDS Alert). I don't know how old your child is but I still use it for my 13 month old. It's just a reassuring ticking sound that let's me know he is breathing and OK!

I still have my bumpers in and plan to keep them in. Ryan is 6 months and will definitely shove his legs and arms through if I take them out.

Re: Bumpers

I never took them off and even now Jack is 21 months and in his toddler bed and I have them around the bed so he doesn't bang his head or anything on any part of the bed.

I never had bumpers, so I see no reason to put them back on. Give it a bit more time, she may never make the same mistake again. Worst case she'll get a bruise, which is much less to worry about. If she seems to do it again and again, perhaps you can get one of those mesh bumpers...

Re: Bumpers

i bought breathable bumpers becuse Olivia rolls alot too. they are very thin but prevents her from sticking her legs in the rails.
