help with TTC nutrition question

I am new to this board so just a quick "hello!" to everyone out there!

my question is this: I often diet/watch what I eat &, since I am an extremely picky eater, often eat Weight Watchers "SmartOnes" or Lean Cuisine dinners. Is it bad to continue eating them while TTC? I hate all healthy food (veggies make me want to puke!) so it's hard for me to eat "normal" food & be healthy.

Also, once I become prego are these microwavable meals I love so much off limits? I would obviously NOT be dieting while pregnant but I feel like bc I am such a picky eater, they might be helpful in getting varieties of foods that are not high in fat or calories.

TIA ladies!!!! Chat Icon

Edited for spelling! haha

First off- Welcome!Chat Icon

I eat Lean Cuisines and Smart Ones everyday of my life for lunch and will not stop in pregnancy. Is it preservatives that your worried about? Because practically everything has some sort of preservative. I am totally not an organic/all natural person.

What exactly do you mean by dieting? I plan on trying my absolute hardest to try and eat the way I do now throughout my pregnancy, meaning healthy.

Thanks for the welcome & reply!!!

I am ok with preservatives... I am FAR from an organic/all-natural eater! hahaha! I love processed food! heheh

I guess the Lean Cuisines, etc have a negative connotation with me because I often get criticized at my job by other people for eating them. People, & even some friends of mine, make me seem like I am NOT HEALTHY for eating them.

I try to eat healthy during the week & then on weekends "enjoy" myself when we go out to eat (within moderation).

I'm glad to hear I am not alone which is how I sometimes feel about it. Thanks so much for making me feel better! Chat Icon

Re: help with TTC nutrition question

before i was pregnant and during my pregnancy i stayed away from things like that...even chinese which was my favorite...you should watch your sodium intake while pregnant and i think those meals might have a lot of salt but i'm not sure b/c i don't eat them....i would ask the doctor....i'm sure its ok during ttc and the 1st tri but i wouldn't eat those meals everyday during my third trimester b/c of risk of high blood pressure - just in case, but i'm pretty cautious...i gave up everything under the sun while i was ttc and pregnantChat Icon

Re: help with TTC nutrition question

The only thing wrong with them is they have way more sodium than you need.

I think if you eat healthy otherwise -- you're fine.

And I think it's okay to keep trying to lose weight (if you're overweight or working towards a more healthy weight... not trying to get deathly skinny that is) while you TTC.

They say you only need 300 extra calories a day while pregnant anyways. Which -- for anyone who watches calories knows -- is like NOTHING.

It's like a glass of a milk and a banana.

I am not overweight...I'm a size 4... I just weigh about 5 lbs more than I'd like to right now. lol

Yes the sodium in those meals is on the high side. I'm soooo screwed once I actually get pregnant.

thanks for your help ladies! I really appreciate it! this website is awesome... everyone is so helpful! Chat Icon

I used to eat them 5 days a week. I started retaining water more often and my BP went up a little at my routine checkup. I decided to stop eating them so often. There's nothing horrible about them but you might be better off eating fresher foods- for your general health, not even talking about pregnancy nutrition.

I recently started going to Trader Joe's weekly- they have some prepared sandwiches, salads and soups that have little or no preservatives and are about the same price as LCs (when not on sale).
