I JUST need to vent- Holy power and gas bill-AGAIN! Update.
When we got the OUTRAGEOUS gas bill of like $1200 I went apoplectic. It was for 2 months ($750 a month).
So it was a real bill...there was a gas leak but it was on THEIR side of the meater, not ours.
The next month was $600. So I went on a no heat rampage. Left the heat at 65.
This month? $625.
Now, my power has been about $400 or so, give or take.
This month? $1000. That has to be a big mistake...I'm going to absolutly loooooose my shizz on this. On the phone right NOW to find out.
Update: Well the power bill was fixed, they actually fixed it to be a REAL read, not an estimated read.
For gas, they alo have been doing estimates based on last year usage when we didnt live in the house.
I'm still very salty abou it though. Welcome to the burbs!

Look at your bill. What does your usage show you used so far? Are you on a budget?

Not on a budget....but we have been RELLY careful this month. The house we are renting is 3500 square fet, with 20-30ft ceilings. I had NO idea the bills would be like this.
We have multiple zones and only use 2. The other 2 have not been on all winter (master bedroom and guest bedrooms. Those 2 zones get "phantom" heat. Its always 70 degrees no matter what we do.
But we realized the big thing is that the bills were estimated. I also just found out the power is on peak/non peak. No one told us this. we JUST found out...and thats AFTRER having a $1400 power bill for July this summer (just as we moved in.
But I think we have it well figured out today. The gas bill was reduced by a few hundred based on THE ACTUALY meter reading, and power was only about $250.
So we NOW have a handle on what is what.
No more central A/C on during the day in the summer, thats for sure!!!

I just converted to gas. My house is 4,000 sq feet, I have 7 heating zones and my gas bill was $225. You should definitely have you heating system evaluated because something is wrong.
ETA: before i converted and redid my heating system I was paying $1000 every 3 weeks and my friggen heat never went above 64.
ETA: Just got a $700 bill, apparently they were just estimating, so we had catch up. In the end still waayyyy cheaper than what we were paying for oil.

Similiar situation over here, we only use gas for our water and dryer. We were paying like 25-30$ since we moved in, fine. Than we got an outrageous 800$ bill out of nowhere, they told us that they finally read our meter, and we were only paying estimates until now. Turns out there is no statue of limitations on this stuff we've been fighting it for months they're going back and chrging us for when we didn't even live here. It sucks I feel your pain
