Half walls?

If you have a half wall with a ledge, what, if anything, do you have on the ledge? We have a half wall between our kitchen and dining room and I have no idea what to do with it.

We have a half wall b/n our living room and dining room and for the longest we didn't have anything because of the baby. Now that she's older I put some candles and a few picture frames. But they cannot be glass. Tried that and after one day it was knocked down and the glass shattered everywhere..and I was the one who knocked it down.
Every holiday I change it around to fit that specific holiday.

We have a half wall, actually a big cut out, but it's open to the hallway and the den. I never know what to put on that ledge, but we have some frames and a big candle... I don't even like the frames there b/c from the den you see the back of them.

This wall divides the living room from the stairs down to our entryway in our raised ranch. I didn't want to see the backs of frames in the mirror or from the door, so this worked perfectly.

we have one, as do my parents, neither of us have done anything with them. We just leave them as is....functional.
