Re: can someone recommend an RE?
Dr.Braverman is amazing and gets TONS of raves on the infertility board. He's located in Woodbury. As far as getting a referral, that depends on how your insurance works.

I am actually seeing him and I did need a referral. If you need one you can get one from your primary care physician.

Re: can someone recommend an RE?
I'm pretty sure whether you need a referral depends on your insurance and not the doctor.
My insurance is Empire BCBS PPO and don't need a referral to see a specialist.
I have no opinion on Dr. Braverman one way or the other, but he does get a lot of positive reviews on the IF board, though there have been some less than favorable reviews as well. When I started searching for a RE, I felt like I HAD to see him because of all the raves. Then I checked and he wasn't part of my insurance plan, and I was a little disappointed at first.
I had an absolutely wonderful experience with Dr. Hershlag at The Center for Human Reproduction at NSUH in Manhasset. Everyone there was fantastic, I cannot say enough about them. Everything is done right there on site.
If you have any questions, please feel free to FM me any time.
I wish you the best of luck in your journey. I found it very hard to take that step to see a RE even though I knew in my head it was time. In my heart it was a little hard to accept that we needed help to achieve something that our bodies were "meant to do." Once I got past that, I have to admit that seeking help was the best decision we made!

I see Dr. Braverman. He's great. As the other ladies said, you only need a referral if your insurance requires it.

I agree with all of this. I have seen Dr. Chu and Dr. Hershlag at this practice. Best decision I made during the TTC process. Everyone there- nurses, techs, etc. are so caring. I actually cried when I 'graduated' from there after conceiving my son. Heading back now as we are trying for #2. Good luck!
