Is she done in the bassinett?

DD will be 3 months old next week. She started rolling over from belly to back 3 days ago. We have been visiting family, so she has been sleeping in a full size crib, but when we go home I really want to put her back into the bassinett in our room. She always sleeps on her belly -- she has been since about 6 weeks, when she refused to be swaddled anymore and this is the only position she would sleep in for more than an hour or so. Over the past 3 days, she has been rolled over onto her back several times when I went in to get her.

I thought I heard that rolling over is the guideline to be used to determine when they need to go into the regular crib. Is this correct? Does she need to move out of our room, or can I leave her in there until she sort of outgrows the bassinett?

If she does have to move out of the bassinett, what is the reason? Is there a risk of them tipping it over as they try to roll, or is there something else?

Check your weight limits on the bassinet. I know we have a big one and it says its really only good until they are 15 pounds. Not that they can't stay in longer. We kept Andrew in the bassinet in our room until he was 3 months, then he transitioned to the crib nicely. We are going to do the same with Lauren.

Re: Is she done in the bassinett?

I think the thought is that once they begin to roll over they can sleep better in a crib because they have more room to move around and get themselves comfortable. My son is almost four months, and once he started rolling over we stopped swaddling him and he now sleeps in his crib.

If you are upset about him not being in your room anymore - thats exactly how I was and kept pushing it off to finally put him in his crib. But it really is better for him, and he is sleeping a bit better. Get a video monitor and its like your right there with him!

Yea I'd say shes done with the bassinett. She needs more room to stretch and roll around. I was very depressed putting her in her crib at night. Thank God for the video monitor so I can watch her breathe Chat Icon

Same here! That video monitor keeps me from sleeping on her floor at night. I noticed when I put her in her crib at night was when she started sleeping much much longer and better than when she was in the bassinet.
