Re: What should I expect for HSG exam?
I think you will find a variety of opinions and experiences. For me I found it to be tolerable. It was def. not something I want to do on a daily basis but rather easy.
I experienced some mild period like cramping during the procedure which lasted no more than 5 minutes. It was more uncomfortable than painful. After, they sent me to the bathrroom to clean up and gave me a pad (i would bring my own if you remember). I had brownish/blackish discharge (light) for the remainder of the day and very little cramping. Not too bad but def. not fun. lol

For me it was very uncomfortable but luckily it doesn't last long. You should get the results right there.

Re: What should I expect for HSG exam?
I had no blockages and therefor no pain AT ALL. I mean literally I was so scared and it was nothing....I have heard girls who have the blockages have some cramping...but just think, you may have some answers so its worth it...good luck

Mine was like 30 seconds of AF cramps and thats it. I had a blockage and it only hurt when they shot it to the blockage side. Some people have more paun, some feel none.

I had no blockages but did have some discomfort. It was very short-lived, though. Felt like someone injected me with menstrual cramps. Warning: No one told me to bring a small pad and I had to walk out with one of those ginormo hospital ones. Learn from me and bring one of your own!
ETA: GOOD LUCK!

Re: What should I expect for HSG exam?
Mine was nothing, to me my normal period cramps are probably 20x worse.
I went on my lunch break and went back to work after. I did have some cramping a few hours later, also though I was bleeding a bit brown but found out later that was the dye.
I got my results immediately, like while I was still laying on the table, the Dr. pointed everything out to me.

Re: What should I expect for HSG exam?
I just had one very recently, so I can explain it vividly. :) The 2 nurse/assistants were nice and made me feel comfortable. They explained it before it started, and told me what to expect and what was going on "down there"
You should take 2 advil an hour before going. They lay you on a table with stirrups just like the gyno. You are warm and comfy and are given a lead apron for your chest, IIRC. The doctor first washes you with an iodine based soap. The doctor uses a specula (with a light on it) to look in. He then explained he was dilating my cervix so that he could insert the cath, to inject the dye. This is when I felt like I had light period cramps, but no pain at all. After feeling a few taps on the specula, he said he was ready. They put the lead aprons on, and put the x-ray machine over my abdomen. they showed me the whole thing on the screen and explained what was going on. The doctor injected the dye and i saw it spill over into the uterus and up into the fallopian tubes on the screen! Cool in a nerdy way....
Then you sit up and they gather the paper around you to catch the fluid that spills out. There was a lot of brownish looking fluid and mucus-like junk coming out, and I did bring my own pad (soooo glad I did). The rest of the day i was discharging nasty tan and brown stuff, with clear mucus streaked with blood. The doctor prescribed an antibiotic to prevent an infection. Other than that, it lasts 10 minutes at best! No big deal at all. Best of luck to you!

Re: What should I expect for HSG exam?
i had it done a few months ago and it wasn't bad at all!
i took 2 motrin 30 minutes before. The procedure itself took like a minute and it didn't hurt...a tiny bit crampy like AF but nothing even painful. The doctor who did it told me right away that everything looked great.
i had a little more cramping later in the day, but again it was nothing bad at all.
they said no sexy time for 24 hrs and you will just have to wear a pad in case the dye leaks out.
good luck!!!

Re: What should I expect for HSG exam?
I had a very painful experience. If I ever have to do it again I will request to be knocked out. Everyone is different. My cousin had no issues whatsoever.
