white kitchen cabinets....
are they back in?
They were really popular in the 90's. Then people wanted light maple then darker woods like dark Cherry.
I am really liking a white kichen again with a darker granite countertop.
I see a lot of "off white" or cream with glazes but what about pure white cabinets?
Thoughts?

I think they are classic and I like them. The only thing is that over time they can yellow with heat.

I don't know if they are back in but I just ripped mine out 6 months ago. They were horrible for fingerprints and food, with 2 kids and a big dog it was horrible. They showed everything. I love the look of cream with a glaze and would think they would be great for hiding dust and dirt. My mahogany color show dust and no dirt

I love the look of white kitchen cabinets, and I see them all the time in home decorator magazines. I think they look especially good in a cottage/coastal living look kind of house... like an old farmhouse in the Hamptons (I am picturing Ina Garten's house - The Barefoot Contessa on Food Network). So if you like that style, I think they really work.
I painted my old kitchen cabinets white when I moved into my house and added new hardware. They look pretty decent, and I like the look of the white. When I remodel my kitchen (someday), I am going to get white again.
I agree that they are classic.

When we moved into our current home the cabinets were white and we didn't have any intentions of renovating the kitchen. With 2 young toddlers at the time I felt like I was ALWAYS wiping something off. They looked really nice though.
Then we had a pipe burst and we almost went with a cream cabinet with a glaze, but opted for dark cabinets since we had added the dark cabinets the year before the pipe burst.
I think as long as you like you like and it isn't to much of a certain trend then it will always be classic.

We just put in white cabinets. I love them and think they are classic. I did carrara marble countertops like in the picture that was posted above.
As for them showing dirt etc. I personally prefer it because I can actually see what is dirty and then clean it. I don't like having "hidden" dirt.

Awwww! Thanks for the compliment! We put a lot of work into it - you should have seen it when we bought it!! It is a great house. We hope it goes to someone who thinks it is a special as we do!

Your kitchen is gorgeous. Just stunning. I don't know if it really is that huge or you just have a great photographer but it looks like it's about 30 feet long. I would not want to leave the house if i had that kitchen.
Anyway, OP: I say if you like it, get it, and don't worry about the trend. We will renovate our kitchen sometime in the next few years and I want white this time. When I think about it, I picture them with all different combinations of countertop styles and colors and I can't decide what look I like best - there are so many appealing combinations!
We also renovated the kitchen in my last house about and I went with alderwood. They're a medium tone wood - not too dark, not too light. I loved that choice, too. The big trend then seemed to be cherry wood which I personally don't care for because it's so dark. I tend to prefer a lighter look in the kitchen, with dark accents.

I love white cabinets. I either want to paint ours white, or when we redo our kitchen put in white ones. We do have have an updated kitchen, but the cabinets are not the best quality, nor was the job done well.
I LOVE white with a dark countertop and stainless appliances.

A large majority (more than half) of the kitchens we do are still white. They have been around for a long time and there is no sign that this style will ever become obsolete. Although today there are more shades of white than you can imagine. We have an entire white wall in the showroom showing the many choices available in white finish options (painted, antique, distressed, etc)

All of our renovations include white kitchens - I love the look and think it's a classic, and looks just beautiful when it's a light and sunny kitchen.
This is our current kitchen - we're about to embark on installing a new kitchen in the new house, and I think we're going to use the same cabinets, because we just love them so much. Image Attachment(s):
