Id get a big fan, or even a misting fan. Have 2 misting fans and survived the summer last year pregnant. They sell them at home depot. It's a really light mist and keeps u super cool. And make sure u got an umbrella. I don't think id be able to say something regardless what I thought.

I think you should just go with it; otherwise you are going to seem ungrateful.

Look at it this way...you didn't think you were getting a shower to begin with. Now, you are having a party thrown in your honor where you are going to get lots of great gifts and you have something to do that day. What else were you planning on doing that day anyway? Probably a whole lot of nothing. I think you are in a win/win situation. Get yourself a pretty sundress, get your hair did and enjoy it.

It's just one day for a few hours. You'll be ok. Great odds in your favor that you will NOT go into labor that early. It happens, but rarely.

Maybe you'll get a beautiful june day that is breezy...it can be really nice that time of year!!

And if its hot, stay in the shade, drink tons of water and go into the house when you need to. the shower will be over before you know it.

With my first son the shower was planned at 35 weeks. I was in MD and the shower was in NY..I had some preterm contractions and couldn't travel which made me so so sad. BUT my family packed up and came to me instead, a week later when i felt better. If I had been local I would have been able to go to my shower...you are local correct?? If you had traveling to do i would tell you to maybe make it earlier...

after reading your update and taking into account a second family shower within a few weeks...maybe you should have DH ask about having the shower like May 14th or so instead...nice weather and likely less hot weather as well is possible by mid may...you'd be something like 33w pregnant at that time and this would put a month between showers...

I would definitely ask DH to ask to move the shower up! Hopefully everyone will agree and invites haven't gone out yet!

I think the weather will be fine but 37 weeks is too close especially to be that far away.

I think John could say something like, I am a little worried about being that far away so close to the dd. I think late may the weekend before memorial day would be perfect.. jmo.

also some people mentioned having time to set up all your gear.. that is a good point too...it would be nice to be able totake your time with that too.

and then after reading your updates about someone being due in aug and thier shower is june 18.. that seems to be more logical then what they are doing for you... it just seems soo close to me!!

My honest opinion is that you should just suck it up and deal .........I don't mean for that to sound as harsh as it comes off.....I just can't think of another way to say it -
I totally understand how you feel b/c I am an evil miserable witch in the heat too ...........
but I think saying something, or asking yoru DH to say something makes it seem like you're ungrateful (which you obviusly are not) If I were the SILs thrwoing the shower, I'd be kind of put off (even if I DID understand your point) .........

June should't be THAT hot, and if you sit in the shade, I am sure you will be fine. -

I don't think 37 weeks is too late - I was about 36 weeks for mine I think, and was still running around in stillettos - Was I exhausted at the end of the day? Of COURSE - but it's a PARTY - for YOU So it's 'good' exhaustion KWIM? Also, it's not like you're running around hosting or actually even expected to DO anything but sit there all day and relax !!

Of course, but no more than normal - and if you're used to commuting to the city every day in the May/June and SUMMER heat (and I'm w/ you I HATE it) I promise, ANY day you don't have to do THAT is cake !!



Are you uncomfortable?
Absolutely, but I doubt everyone stops leaving the house b/c of it ........there's nothing you can do about it until that baby is born, and you can't control it - so you just deal ........

And a 45 min drive isn't 'so far' at all - at least IMO

Again, you work in the city? You're used to long commute - it's annoying, it's not FUN, but it's NOT unbearable either -
My HOSPITAL is a 45 min drive from my house !!

Don't stress out and get worked up over something that is supposed to be fun for you !!
Just go w/ it - it's a party. Everyone is going to be doting on you, you will not have to 'ask' anyone to give you a seat in the shade, it will be assumed, trust me - If you need to sneak into the AC here and there, again, no one is going to think you're hiding - Hello, you have to pee !!

I was 37 weeks at my shower with DD....It was a bit nerve wracking and I was starting to worry if I'd end up having her before the shower...but it was fine.

My shower was the middle of July...so thankfully it was indoors. I think that in the beginning of June, you'd be okay on the heat factor...but maybe bring it up in a round-a-bout fashion...If they know you know it's going to be outside, just say "oh, I hope it isn't too hot when you plan the shower...I can't imagine sitting in the heat will be fun at the end of my pregnancy"
