Would you go backwards?
If you got pregnant through IVF or FET, had a baby, then had a failed FET and could not afford to do another fresh cycle right away - would you go "backwards" and do an IUI with injectables? What treatment would you do? Would you try to finance an IVF cycle?
Thank you for your help.

Re: Would you go backwards?
it totally depends on what your issues are to begin with, your age and if IUIs are covered by insurance. if your tubes are fine, under age 40 and IUIs cost you pretty much nothing, i would say why not. just be realistic that after 3-4 tries, you should try IVF again. keep in mind that you can only use clomid so many times, so if you have done it in the past, you should do IUIs with injectibles.
i do not have IVF coverage so i totally understand the $$ costs involved. those extra 3-4 months of IUIs will at least increase your chances a little and give you some time to figure out how to finance IVF. look into grants, special financing offers and even studies where you can cycle for free.
funny you mention this. i have not gotten pregnant by IVF but i did not try IUI with injectibles, just clomid and straight to IVF. we don't have the $$ right now for IVF so we are going to try IUI with injectibles for 3-4 months while we figure out financing IVF. IUIs are completely covered for me. so in my mind, i am at least increasing my chances over trying naturally.

Re: Would you go backwards?
Thank you so much for the detailed response. I am under 30, great tubes, good egg reserves, unexplained IF. Right now IUIs are covered but only until June or July. I don't think we would be eliible for any grants since this is for #2. Do you know the OOP cost of IVF with Dr. B?

Re: Would you go backwards?
The question I would ask myself is whether doing IUIs would take money away from saving for another fresh cycle. If they are covered (with the meds) then I dont see a down side to doing IUIs until you save the money for a fresh cycle. Sorry about the failed FET

Re: Would you go backwards?
i would definitely try IUI until your insurance runs out. i don't know about Dr B costs but either search here (i am pretty sure someone posted them previously) or i'm sure there are some current Dr B patients that wouldn't mind sharing the info.

Re: Would you go backwards?
Well, what was supposed to be an IVF cycle for us got converted b/c I only had 2 follies and I'm almost 28 weeks pregnant, so yeah, I would, LOL! (after multiple IUI's and 2 failed IVF's)

When he was with AFS it was $8k for a single cycle. Or $10k for the the first with the option to buy in with another $10k for up to 3 more cycles if need be. No meds, but it included ICSI andAH.
